Winter vacation is officially over and Northeastern students have come back relaxed, refreshed, and, for some, a few pounds heavier.
Staff at the Marino Center has noticed an increase in the number of people in the Marino Center since the spring semester began, some of whom may be looking to keep New Year’s resolutions to get in shape.
There has been “an average of 200-300 more students at the gym” daily since spring semester began, said Mark Candelora, staff member at the Marino Center. According to Candelora, this is a yearly trend that usually settles down “after about a month.”
Psychologist Kerri I. Weiss told the Asbury Park Press in the Jan. 1 edition that “If you want to lose weight, you have to outline a plan and see the small ways you are going to do it. People set themselves up for failure by creating unrealistically high goals. The best approach is to choose one or two specific goals and set a realistic time frame. Then, break your goals into mini-goals and outline the specific ways that will allow you to reach them.”
