Crime Log: Feb. 9 – Feb. 14

February 18, 2016
CRIME OF THE WEEK: Sunday, Feb. 14 11:34 p.m. An individual unaffiliated with Northeastern University (NU) reported several NU students living on Massachusetts Avenue had been threatening him for several weeks. The caller, a law student at an unnamed school, met Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD) on the sidewalk. NUPD reported a large, unruly party in a basement apartment with about 100 attendees. NUPD and BPD broke up the party and reported several of the NU residents were uncooperative. Their neighbor called back at 12:48 a.m. to report they had made additional threats towards him. A report was filed.

CRIME OF THE WEEK: Tuesday, Feb. 2 7:08 p.m. Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD) reported two men running on Gainsborough Street. One appeared to be chasing the other. NUPD caught up with the subjects, and the pursuer, a Northeastern University (NU) student, explained he heard a woman screaming in the Hemenway Street alley. The student noticed a man running from the area, so he pursued him. NUPD found the man being chased, a juvenile unaffiliated with NU, had stolen a phone from a subject also unaffiliated with NU while she was walking in the Hemenway Street alley. The subject was returned to his parents, and charges will be filed.

CRIME OF THE WEEK: Wednesday, Jan. 27 6:50 p.m. The Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD) received a computer-generated call reporting a bomb would detonate on Columbus Avenue. Boston Police Department (BPD) was advised and NUPD responded, searching and evacuating the building. The caller would not respond to specific questions about the location or type of the device. NUPD did not locate any devices and social media posts indicated the threat was a hoax. A report was filed.

CRIME OF THE WEEK: Sunday, Jan. 24 12:13 a.m. An intoxicated female in the lobby of Kariotis Hall was reported. The Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD) responded and spoke to the student, who was conscious and alert but did not have any shoes. The student reported losing them in the storm. NUPD escorted the underage student to her residence in West Village B.

Crime Log: Jan. 11 – Jan. 18

Crime of the Week: Monday, Jan. 18 12:47 a.m. An individual reported to Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD) headquarters that his iPhone was stolen. The student explained that after playing in the snow he could not find his iPhone 5S or the Husky Card inside. A report was filed.

Crime Log: Dec. 28 – Jan. 9

January 13, 2016
Crime of the Week: Thursday, Dec. 31 10:27 p.m. NUPD observed a suspect potentially matching the description from the mailbox breaks that have been occurring on St. Stephen Street. After a short foot chase, NUPD reported one suspect in custody in front of 23 St. Stephen St. and requested EMS at 10:30 p.m. for a 40-year-old male with a laceration to the nose. The same male was placed under arrest at 10:37 p.m. for receiving stolen property valuing more than $250. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded and treated the laceration, and the prisoner was later transported to the hospital with NUPD as guards.

Crime Log: Nov. 16 – Nov. 29

Crime of the Week: Wednesday, Nov. 18 9:53 p.m. A Resident Assistant (RA) in Davenport B reported the smell of marijuana coming from a room. NUPD responded and, after investigation, placed a student under arrest at 10:19 p.m. for possession of cocaine and prescription pills. The student, who had prior incidents with the Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD), was transported from Davenport B to police headquarters.

Crime Log: Nov. 9 – Nov. 15

Crime of the Week: Wednesday, Nov. 11 12:25 p.m. The Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD) responded to a fire alarm in West Village A and reported there were flames in an oven and the stove was smoking. Boston Fire Department (BFD) was notified and NUPD put out the fire using the extinguisher in the hallway. The fire was caused by a bag of Corn Puffs cereal placed in the oven. A report was filed.

Crime Log: Nov. 2 – Nov. 8

Crime of the Week: Wednesday, Nov. 4 8:55 a.m. The manager of Wollaston’s Market in the Marino Center notified the Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD) they were detaining a shoplifter who was cooperative at the time but soon started throwing tables and chairs in the atrium area and ran from the building. NUPD located the subject on the lower subway level of Ruggles station at 9:04 a.m. and confirmed the juvenile, who was not an NU student, had assaulted two Wollaston’s employees. After confirming he was the shoplifter, NUPD escorted him to his school at 9:53 a.m. His mother was notified, a trespassing warning was issued and a report was filed.

Crime Log: Oct. 26 – Nov.1

Crime of the Week: Sunday, Nov. 1 1:28 a.m. A caller reported a fight between eight people, both male and female, was occurring outside Renaissance Park. The Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD) responded and was flagged down by someone who reported three males, one in a cow suit and potentially possessing a knife, had already fled. A Northeastern University (NU) student matching the description was found on the upper busway exiting onto Ruggles Street. A discarded knife was recovered within the reach of the party. The suspect denied ownership. A report was filed.

Crime Log: Oct. 19 – Oct. 25

Entry of the week: Friday, Oct. 23 2:43 p.m. A Resident Assistant (RA) at 319 Huntington Ave. reported finding marijuana in a dorm room while conducting room inspections. The Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD) responded and confiscated less than an ounce of the substance.

Crime Log: Oct. 12 – Oct. 18

Entry of the Week: Thursday, Oct. 15 7:00 a.m. A duress alarm from the northeast proctor station of International Village was activated. The Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD) responded and contacted one of the proctors in a building, who explained there was a male shouting at another proctor because he would not let him into the building to see his girlfriend. NUPD spoke to the visitor, who was unaffiliated with Northeastern. He was trying to contact his girlfriend to retrieve his phone, and the proctor would not let him in or allow him to call her, because he did not know her last name or room number. NUPD explained the sign-in procedure and escorted the male from the area without further incident.
