Dump and Chase: Any given Monday

February 7, 2013
Not too long ago, I mentioned what could make this season a measured success for the men’s hockey team. There were two clear scenarios covered: Making it to the TD Garden for the Hockey East semifinals, and/or winning the Beanpot. Both were daunting tasks given the schedules at hand, but since the Huskies would likely have to go through both Boston University and Boston College to win the Beanpot, their odds dipped heavily with bias below the clean 25 percent chance each of the four Beanpot teams receives going into the tournament.

February 4, 2013
Husky rookie Kevin Roy picked the right day to get his first collegiate hat trick, leading Northeastern to a first-round Beanpot win over crosstown rivals Boston University Terriers, 3-2. With 29 points on the season, Roy broke former Husky Brodie Reid's freshman scoring record.

Dump and Chase: Closing in on the Beanpot

January 24, 2013
As much of campus grieves over the Patriots’ AFC Championship game defeat, there is something else approaching besides Super Bowl XLVII in a couple of weeks. That, of course, is the 62nd annual Beanpot Tournament.

All Hail: Husky hockey keeps up the inconsistency

March 1, 2012

Let’s talk about hockey. Not the Bruins, and not the recent Max Nicastro scandal down on Commonwealth Avenue, but good old in-our-own-backyard Husky hockey. You know the kind:  disappointing, then hope-inducing, then extraordinary… and then heartbreaking again. We saw the...

February 16, 2012
For the first time since 2008, the men’s hockey team finished fourth in the Beanpot Championship after losing to Harvard College 3-2 in the consolation game Monday night at TD Garden. Head coach Jim Madigan had one word for the Huskies’ performance: “embarrassing.”

Harvard hands Huskies fourth place Beanpot finish

February 13, 2012
Less than a week after the women’s hockey team brought home its first Beanpot title since 1998, the men’s hockey team finished in fourth place in tournament after losing to Harvard University, 3-2, tonight at TD Garden.

Women’s hockey wins 15th Beanpot title

February 9, 2012
For the first time in 14 years, the Northeastern Huskies took home the Beanpot title after defeating Boston University 4-3 in overtime. The scoring lead changed sides on multiple occasions and sent the game into overtime, but in the end it was the duo of freshman forward Kendall Coyne and junior forward Casey Pickett who clutched the win for the Huskies, 4-3.

Men’s hockey falls to BC in Beanpot

February 9, 2012
United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) No. 5 Boston College quickly eliminated any thought of revenge for the Huskies, winning handily, 7-1, at TD Garden Monday night. Northeastern remains without a championship in the tournament since 1988. Northeastern and BC have met in 41 Beanpot games, and with this year’s loss, the Huskies fall to 9-32 overall.

Well, now what?

February 9, 2012
It’s clear to anyone who saw the Beanpot game that this team seemed to feel like it was missing something. They took too many chances and tried to make too much happen to convince fans they have was clicking on all cylinders.

Huskies win streak ends with Beanpot blow-out

February 7, 2012
The men’s hockey team will not be competing for its fifth Beanpot championship next week, after falling 7-1 to United States College Hockey Organization (USCHO) No. 5 Boston College in front of 17,565 at TD Garden Monday night.
