CAA regular-season title shared by four teams

The Northeastern men’s basketball team clinched a part of the regular season Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) title with a 65-56 victory at the College of Charleston on Saturday. The win vaulted the Huskies (20-11, 12-6 CAA) into a four-way tie atop the conference, giving the program its second regular season title in three years.

Both the Northeastern University men’s hockey and basketball teams came into the season with high expectations that they didn’t quite live up to in the regular season. The basketball team was picked to win the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in what was supposed to be a year without strong competition for the conference. The hockey team was ranked 16th in the nation before the season and was picked to finish fourth in the Hockey East preseason poll.

We are just a few days away from the month of March, and you know what that means: March Madness. This is the most exciting time in the college basketball season. I’m not even talking about the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament, but I’m referencing everything that leads to it. With every team in the country feeling the pressure that the end of the regular season schedule brings, every game is naturally more intense – probably because there seems to be more riding on each and every game.

Last week was a roller-coaster ride for the Northeastern men’s basketball team. After a commanding 82-59 thumping of James Madison University (JMU) at Matthews Arena on Thursday, the Huskies (14-7) suffered a road loss to the College of William & Mary on Saturday, falling 78-62.

After playing 12 of its first 16 contests on the road, the Northeastern men’s basketball team settled down this week for the first three games of a four-game homestand. The Huskies (13-6) played well at Matthews Arena, defeating Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rivals Hofstra University and the College of Charleston before falling to non-conference foe University of Detroit Mercy. Junior guard David Walker led the Huskies in scoring during the stretch, averaging 19 points per contest over the triplet of games.

Men’s basketball finds CAA success

While most of Northeastern’s students enjoyed a quiet winter break away from school, the NU men’s basketball team was busy putting together an impressive nine-game stretch that spanned December and January. Over the past nine contests, the Huskies finished with a 6-3 record.
