Harvard hands Huskies fourth place Beanpot finish

Less than a week after the women’s hockey team brought home its first Beanpot title since 1998, the men’s hockey team finished in fourth place in tournament after losing to Harvard University, 3-2, tonight at TD Garden.

United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) No. 5 Boston College quickly eliminated any thought of revenge for the Huskies, winning handily, 7-1, at TD Garden Monday night. Northeastern remains without a championship in the tournament since 1988. Northeastern and BC have met in 41 Beanpot games, and with this year’s loss, the Huskies fall to 9-32 overall.

The men’s hockey team ended 2011 on a high note, winning the Mariucci Classic Tournament with a 3-2 New Year’s Eve victory over host school and No. 2 University of Minnesota before a crowd of 8,765. The win extends the Huskies’ unbeaten streak to eight games. They have not lost since dropping a 4-2 road decision to the University of Massachusetts Nov. 12.
