The singer, guitarist and keyboardist performed a few songs, then, abandoning non-smoking laws, Alexander Mc-Mahon lit up a cigarette and let the smoke swirl around him for the remainder of the show.
McMahon, 21, is part of an underground rock band, Inouk (pronounced e-nook), who performed to a crowd of about 40 people Thursday night at T.T. the Bears in Cambridge.
Their six-song lineup captured the audience’s attention immediately. Everyone was jumping around and bopping their heads to the eclectic music.
One second they resembled David Gray, the next it was O.A.R and then an ’80s new wave Britpop sound, similar to Duran Duran.
“It’s funny the diversity we’ve got on what we definitively sound like,” McMahon said. “Once we read three pages on all the different bands [critics] thought we sounded like and some aren’t even remotely the same as others.”
