Stylish. Young. New. These words not only describe the latest high-fashion shop I Boutique on Newbury Street, but also the latest business moguls who run it.
Cameron Grob, a 2003 Northeastern graduate with a major in business marketing, is one of the original founders along with Andrew Haddad, a current senior majoring in entrepreneurship and small business and Anthony Rich, a 2005 Boston University graduate.
I Boutique was an idea spawned by Grob in order to help persuade his friend into staying in Boston after graduation as well as to promote his company C Entertainment, which he started in 2002 as part of his co-op at Northeastern.
“We wanted more of a destination to promote events, eyewear, clothing and fashion activity in the area,” Grob said.
Choosing a location to launch the store was not difficult. Grob knew from the beginning it was going to be on Newbury Street.
“[Newbury] has a lot of people and a lot of stores,” Grob said. “And Boston is a college city.”
Grob walked up and down the street of Newbury to find the perfect location for his project. After narrowing it down to four spots and talking to the landlords, he decided on what he thought to be the best spot for the best available price.
The stylish boutique located at 251 Newbury St. is nestled just below street level, and the exterior is that of a brick stone building. Tables and chairs decorate the front of the store with larges vases filled with colorful flowers.
When walking into the store, the smells of new wood and even newer clothes fill the air, and rock and hip-hop music play on a radio in the background.
In the corner there is a plasma screen TV showing all the latest runway shows from Roberto Cavalli to Dolce and Gabbana.
The atmosphere of the inside is similar to that of a downtown New York City caf
