Men’s hockey head coach Greg Cronin and assistant coach Albie O’Connell have been suspended indefinitely after Northeastern University discovered potential NCAA violations regarding the recruitment of prospective athletes of the men’s hockey team.
“We are taking this action now to reinforce a culture of integrity within our department,” director of athletics Peter Roby said. “We are committed to operating an athletics program that is reflective of the values of the university we represent. It is imperative that we conduct our activities in full accordance with NCAA and conference rules. We are dedicated to that effort, and we are taking all appropriate steps to ensure that is the case.”
Throughout the course of routine internal compliance monitoring, the university uncovered possible violations relating to phone and text message legislation.
Assistant coach Sebastien Laplante will serve as interim head coach as the Huskies take on No.1 Boston College in a home-and-home series which starts tonight when NU travels to Chestnut Hill.
The university will not make any additional comments, as the investigation is ongoing.
