Last Friday, when I was in Snell Library until the wee hours of the morning finishing up a philosophy paper, I thought, “What if the library wasn’t open at this hour?” A few days later I went to print out my American government term paper in my dorm room when I realized (three pages in) that my ink was out – I then booked it to the library knowing I could make it to a quick print station, swipe my Husky ID, and that my assignments would be there waiting.
These are a couple of the great things that students take for granted. These same attributes are also enormous reasons why I am voting Mike Sabo for student body president.
As a freshman here at Northeastern, I already know how easy it is to get lost in the shuffle and have already witnessed how quickly our thoughts get mishandled in the airwaves. I even attended early meetings for Student Government Association (SGA,) but felt overwhelmed. Yet, when Mike Sabo came to speak to the Political Science Student Association on Tuesday night, I actually felt like I was speaking to a candidate who genuinely cares for our university and for how we, as students, feel.
I was able to ask Mike questions about things that concerned me particularly, which happened to be the lack of electrical outlets in Snell, and he answered me with a caring, genuine response, and even though he did not have all the answers at the time, he was determined to get to the solution and to stay in touch with me about the matter. This type of motivation and sincerity are qualities that are paramount, and show me the type of person I wanted to represent my voice in our Northeastern community.
Mike Sabo stands out in the presidential race from his immense amount of experience. Serving as vice president for academic affairs, Mike helped implement some of Northeastern’s greatest features: 24/7 library hours, quick swipe printing stations, laptop locks in Snell, TRACE evaluation surveys, an increase of eBooks in Snell, and a faculty textbook agreement. The idea of Snell not being open at 3 a.m. is unfathomable, and not being able to read reviews on our potential professors would be devastating. Yet, thanks to Mike Sabo’s hard work, we now have an improved student experience.
Sabo’s accomplishments inevitably foreshadow his ability to succeed as the president of our student body and I cannot wait to cast my vote for an experienced student who I am confident will better my student experience.
