Four football players earned preseason accolades July 22.
Punter Ron Conway and offensive lineman Kevin Newhall, both entering their senior seasons, joined junior safety Nate Thellen on college football analyst Phil Steele’s preseason All-CAA Football second team. Thellen and senior linebacker Phil Higgins were also listed as honorable mention to the Consensus Draft Services’ preseason All-American team.
The two honors add to Thellen’s preseason accolades, as July 9 he was named to the Sports Network Preseason All-America second team. He led with five interceptions and was fourth in tackles with 58. This is Conway, Newhall and Higgins’ first preseason honor.
The team opens preseason practice Aug. 9 and starts the 2009 campaign at Boston College Sept. 5.
