The Northeastern men’s and women’s track teams traveled to the University of Massachusetts Amherst Saturday to compete in the Minuteman Invitational. The men’s team finished second overall and the women’s squad earned a third-place team finish.
For the third consecutive week, the Huskies were represented in the Colonial Athletic Association’s (CAA) weekly awards, as sophomores Nicole Genard and Donovan Henry were recognized for their performances at UMass.
With a first-place throw of 44.26 meters, Genard set a new Northeastern record in the javelin and qualified for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships.
Genard earned CAA field athlete of the week honors for her record-setting toss.
“I feel very blessed and honored to have earned this title,” Genard said in an email to the News. “I’m very proud of my accomplishments on the track and in the classroom, so to earn that title assures me that my hard work is paying off.”
Henry garnered CAA track athlete of the week honors after recording two conference-leading times Saturday.
“Earning CAA athlete for the first time is an honor,” he said in an email to the News. “What makes it even better is that my teammate, Nicole, earned it as well for her great performance.”
Henry finished second in the 400-meter dash with a CAA-best time of 48.50 seconds, qualifying for the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) championship.
He also finished third and qualified for the New England championships in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 21.86 seconds.
“Running well in the 400 before I ran the 200 just gave me a good idea of the shape I was in,” Henry said. “It kind of set the bar for the next race and gave me something to aim for.”
Senior Kevin Rosenberg had two outstanding performances in the field Saturday, winning both the shot put and discus. With a mark of 45.61 meters in the discus, Rosenberg set a new personal best and qualified for the New England championships.
Senior Max Milder won the hammer throw for the Huskies and senior Kaylin Miranda captured the top spot in the long jump.
The women’s team also excelled in the field. In addition to Genard’s win in the javelin, senior Julia Westover won the hammer throw with a mark of 46.75 meters and sophomore Alexandra Rose finished second with a 45.44-meter toss.
Olivia Stevens took second in the triple jump and senior Georgia Pingue finished third in the long jump.
On the track, freshman Paul Duffey won the 800-meter run with a New England-qualifying time of 1:52.33.
Sophomore Camille Gooden and senior Chelsea Hudson also qualified for the New England championship. Gooden secured a spot with a winning time of 56.47 seconds in the 400-meter dash. Hudson won the 400-meter hurdles in a New England-qualifying time of 1:02.75.
The Huskies will be back in action Saturday at the Yale University-hosted Mark Young Invitational.
