In addition to Northeastern’s savvy new iPhone app, there are dozens of others that are specially geared towards college students or the city of Boston. Here are a few that should make navigating and living in the Hub a little easier. Or at least a little flashier.
In Boston, it’s not exactly an overstatement to say there’s a Dunkin’ Donuts on every corner. There’s two on campus alone. Therefore, the Boston college student should have the Dunkin’ Donuts app, called Dunkin’ Run, to make things run a little more smoothly when you’ve been sent to get coffees for the entire office at your co-op job. The app allows you to place orders online and solicit group orders. You can create a list of friends and co-workers to alert when you’re planning a trip to Dunkin’ Donuts or send them a personal message inviting them to place an order online.
While not something that needs to be purchased in the app store, the recorder feature on iPhones may be overlooked on its usefulness to the college student. The recorder can be used to record lectures, personal notes or for interviews when you need to write an article for The Huntington News.
Free Boston provides dozens of listings of free exhibits, tours, events and museum admissions in and around Boston. And what’s more, it even provides the phone number, address and URL for the event. You can mark your favorites and the listings update periodically. For 99 cents, this app is priced to satisfy the frugal curiosity of visitors of Boston that wish to explore on a dime. This app is also available for San Francisco, London, New York City and others.
