The Northeastern men’s hockey team lost five top-liners to NHL contracts days after its 4-3 double overtime loss in the Hockey East tournament semifinal. Three news players have been added through the transfer portal.
Junior forward Cam Lund signed an entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks March 21. The Sharks drafted Lund with the 34th pick in the second round of the 2022 NHL draft. He joins Boston University’s Macklin Celebrini and Boston College’s Will Smith in signing with the team.
Lund appeared in 107 games during his three seasons as a Husky, recording 93 points with 36 goals and 57 assists. In addition to leading the team in scoring with 18 goals in the 2024-25 season, he was a semifinalist for the Hobey Baker Award and was named to the Hockey East Third All-Star team. He made his debut for the Sharks March 27 and scored his first career goal March 29.
Junior defenseman Jackson Dorrington signed his three-year entry-level contract with the New York Rangers March 23. Originally drafted 176th overall in the sixth round of the 2022 draft by the Vancouver Canucks, Dorrington’s rights were traded to the Rangers as part of the J.T. Miller deal in January. He played 105 games at Northeastern, logging 33 points over three collegiate seasons. He began his professional career March 26 with the Hartford Wolfpack, New York’s American Hockey League, or AHL, affiliate.
Junior forward and captain Jack Williams, undrafted, joined the Columbus Blue Jackets on a two-year, entry-level contract March 25. Williams notched 94 points from 39 goals and 44 assists over 106 games at Northeastern. He previously attended development camps hosted by the Philadelphia Flyers and the Winnipeg Jets and was nominated twice for the Hobey Baker, finishing as a semifinalist both times. Williams played his first NHL game for the Blue Jackets April 17.
Senior forward Cristophe Tellier was signed by the Florida Panthers AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, March 25. Tellier, a transfer from Quinnipiac, recorded 69 points on 20 goals and 49 assists in 125 appearances across four collegiate seasons. In the 2022-23 season, Tellier won a national championship with the Bobcats, scoring a goal in the contest.
On March 27, sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Vegas Golden Knights. In 70 games at Northeastern, Whitehead logged 4,163 minutes of ice time, recorded a 2.68 goals-against average, made 1,978 saves and posted a .914 save percentage. He received the Beanpot Eberly Award Feb.12, 2024, in the Huskies’ victory over Boston University. Whitehead started in his first professional game April 12 for the Henderson Silver Knights, Vegas’ AHL affiliate.
On March 30, the transfer portal opened to all collegiate hockey players.
Freshman forward Ben Poitras was the first Husky to enter the transfer portal March 30. Poitras appeared in 29 of the team’s 37 games this season. He scored his first and only collegiate goal against Boston College Feb. 3 in Northeastern’s 8-2 loss.
Michael Fisher was next to enter the portal, also March 30. Fisher played 30 games in the 2023-24 season before returning to play in the British Columbia Hockey League. He was drafted by the San Jose Sharks with the 76th pick in the third round of the 2022 NHL Draft.

Freshman forward Marc Lund followed a day later. Lund did not record any ice time for the Huskies.
On April 1, junior forward Nick Rhéaume entered the portal for the second time in his collegiate career. Rhéaume previously played his freshman and sophomore seasons at the University of Massachusetts Lowell before joining Northeastern in 2024. Rhéaume recorded four points in the 2024-25 season, tallying two goals and two assists.
Sophomore forward Billy Norcross joined Rhéaume, announcing his departure April 1. Norcross played in 50 games for the Huskies, logging five total points from five assists over his career, but just one point this season.
Backup junior goaltender Harrison Chesney entered the transfer portal April 2. Chesney played in just one game in his time with the Huskies, logging nearly six minutes of play and making one save.
On April 9, freshman defenseman Seth Constance entered the portal. Constance participated in every game for the Huskies, notching his first collegiate point with an assist against Boston College Feb. 3.
Northeastern, so far, will add four new players to the roster from the transfer portal.
The first commit was junior defenseman Dylan Finlay from the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves. Finlay played in 28 games last season, tallying 10 points from four goals and six assists.
The Huskies added three new additions April 17: junior defenseman Austen May from the Providence College Friars, junior goaltender Lawton Zacher from the Brown University Bears, and sophomore forward Tyler Fukakusa from the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers. May appeared in 34 games for the Friars in the 2024-25 season, scoring one goal and making 13 assists.
Fukakusa notched 36 points this season from nine goals and 27 assists in 35 games for the Tigers. Zacher was in between the pipes for 28 games in Brown’s last season, logging a 2.48 goals-against average and .917 save percentage — making him a potential replacement for Whitehead.
The NCAA Ice Hockey transfer portal closes May 13, so look out for more transfers in and out for Northeastern.
