Skyler Irving, a recently graduated Husky forward, was selected by the Professional Women’s Hockey League’s Montréal Victoire June 24, becoming the 11th Husky to be drafted to the 2-year-old league.
Irving played 152 games for the Huskies, tallying 99 goals. She led the team in goals and assists in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons and helped secure a historic Beanpot three-peat. The Kingston, Mass., native was often a game-saving player whose powerful shots and defensive work made the difference for the Huskies.
“Being able to defend hard and produce offense is something I want to bring,” Irving said in an interview with the Professional Women’s Hockey League, or PWHL, shortly after being drafted.
The Montréal Victoire are based in the Greater Montreal area and made five picks and one trade at the 2025 PWHL draft.
Irving was the 20th pick in the third round and was one of just 48 players drafted. She will join former Husky forwards Maureen Murphy and Hayley Scamurra on the Victoire.
“Get stronger, get faster, work on the little things — cause now there’s checking involved,” Irving said after the draft when asked what she wants to improve. “Making plays under pressure is what I want to work on.”
Each PWHL team has 26 players, including three reserves. Victoire can hold Irving’s rights for two years, regardless of whether she reports to camp or signs a contract. She can also be traded during that time.
In an interview with The Huntington News in October 2024, Irving said that the PWHL was “definitely an end goal.”
Defenders Lily Yovetich and Katie Davis also declared for the draft. Although they were not selected, both are eligible for an invitation to camp. The season starts in November, but the schedules have not yet been released.
