These buildings are so spectacular that it is called a village, this complex is West Village.
West Village sits on Parker Street behind such landmarks as the African-American Institute and the lavish Willis Hall. Constructed in the late-90’s, West Village has been the top pick for housing. Those who are lucky enough to have lottery numbers line up at the selection process in hopes that they too can say that they had the chance to live in “the Village.”
West Village was voted the top pick possibly because it is centrally located next to UHOP for those who crave a late night munchie, and it was very close to the Museum of Fine Arts T-stop (that is until the stop was moved). The other housing picks do not measure up. The Davenport complex is more than a hop, skip and a jump away located on Columbus Ave. (it’s a wonder they don’t have a shuttle) and Willis Hall, which also has a great location, but could stand to be remodeled to erase its present prison theme.
Not only is West Village conveniently located next to food establishments, but it has so many fixtures that the older dorms do not have. Where else can you find glass windows where people can look into your apartment and see your every move? Where else do you constantly get the “ohh’s” and “ahh’s?” I’ve heard people enter the village and say, “This is the nicest dorm I’ve ever seen.”
West Village’s appeal in the housing market has also gone up since it now includes West Village E and will soon welcome its other family members G and H in 2004.
No wonder the Village edged out the competition and came out the victor as the number one upperclassmen residence hall.
