Editorial: All forms of discrimination must be addressed

The Editorial Board November 12, 2017
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights lists laws that prohibit discrimination based on race, age and disability. Yet it’s Title IX that universities focus all of their transparency efforts and in doing so information about other injustices on campus slip through the cracks.

Column: It happened for a reason

November 9, 2017
When something incomprehensibly awful happens, it can be tempting to believe that serendipitous forces are orchestrating the happenings of the universe; that an unknown power is pulling puppet strings and strategically scripting the progression of our lives.

Column: Art can inspire the world

November 2, 2017
We typically associate social impact with the duty of governments and NGOs more than individuals, but that mindset needs to change. Every person is in a place to inspire and empower others by doing what they do in their everyday jobs — whether that’s playing music, teaching, delivering mail — as long as they have the desire and determination to.

Editorial: Students want an end to the “NU Shuffle”

The Editorial Board November 2, 2017
The “NU Shuffle” refers to the experience students go through when they go to one advisor or department for help with a problem and are referred to another office that will often give another referral and another after that until the situation is resolved. The multistep process can be time consuming and often ends in students feeling more upset than they did when the problem initially arose.

Sometimes it's hard to know what to do when you hear about the thousands of people affected by climate change. This bill gives you a chance to act locally and support people all over the world.

Op-ed: When my Faith met Birthright

October 25, 2017
Going into Birthright, I felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness. Everyone always talks about how much they loved their trip and how awesome it was, calling it life-changing, but no one could ever give me a sound reason why they loved it so much. While the two days of travel weren’t great, I quickly learned that everyone I had talked to about Birthright was right.

Column: Boston mayoral races aren’t much of a race

October 25, 2017
Now, I’m certainly no Nate Silver, but I feel extremely comfortable making a prediction about the outcome of this race: Jackson is going to get absolutely smoked by Walsh.

Editorial: The student body needs to see more of President Aoun

The Editorial Board October 25, 2017
Like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster, Joseph Aoun is often discussed but rarely seen. He may as well be Northeastern’s own mythical creature.
