Men’s Basketball: Losing streak reaches eight

Entering last night’s contest at Delaware, the men’s basketball team was trying not to let its seven-game losing streak become a mental block. Still win-less in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play, the Huskies were hoping to down UD for the 12th-consecutive time.

The weather is disgusting, there's no baseball, the NBA and NHL are mired in regular season dullness (though you wouldn't have known it with some exciting wins for the B's and C's over the long weekend), and the Super Bowl is still weeks away. Luckily, on the college sports side of things, January is usually when hockey season picks up the pace and the basketball conference schedule ramps up.

As heavy snow fell on Boston and locals needed shovels to dig themselves clear of the inclement weather, the men’s basketball team was in the midst of trying to dig itself clear of an inclement stretch. An 86-60 loss to visiting George Mason last night dropped the Huskies to 4-12 overall and 0-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The loss was Northeastern’s sixth consecutive defeat.

Sophomore guard Afreyea Tolbert scored a career-high 18 points to aid the women’s basketball team in a 69-56 win over William & Mary at Solomon Court Sunday. Alongside Tolbert, junior guards Jamie Conroy and Kashaia Cannon added eight and 14 points, respectively.
