After a decent 4-3 start, the Northeastern University (NU) men’s basketball team dropped a pair of close games last week to Stony Brook University and Harvard University. While the scoreboard read that the Huskies were in each game until the end, there’s an unmistakable sense that these losses could have easily been wins.

Social theorist Karl Marx wrote that prevalent capitalist societies would crumble at the hands of the disgruntled working class after decades of inequality. Of course, Marx probably never would have predicted that the onset of this revolution would perhaps find its roots in the massive horde of upset NBA fans and players who took to social media to express how they have been “hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray,” or any other words an angry Stephen A. Smith would use in this situation. I am of course talking about Kevin Durant’s unprecedented move to the already-strong Golden State Warriors, leaving Oklahoma City Thunder fans in a state of distress that only a Seattle Supersonics fan could understand.

The Madness can begin. The brackets have been released, and a shot at predicting the future can start. March is here, having escaped the winter with hardly anything to complain about. This month marks Easter, the last sights of snow and the beginning of spring. However, all of that means nothing compared to March Madness.

Men’s hoops fights to climb in conference

Back on Feb. 6, the Northeastern University (NU) men’s basketball team dropped its sixth-straight game, a 90-73 home drubbing at the hands of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. NU fell below .500, and any hopes of hoisting a second-straight conference championship banner seemed to vanish.

It was a rare sight: Northeastern University (NU) men’s basketball players smiling at the post-game press conference at Matthews Arena. Players rarely attend the presser if the Huskies lose, and NU hadn’t earned a home victory since early January.
