Walking through Northeastern’s newest high rise, West Village H, a construction worker is singing softly to himself. “Happy workers,” said project manager Nancy May with a smile. William Rawn Associates, the architects who constructed West Village A, B and C, as well as the campus’ latest additions, G and H, has cause to be merry. After beginning work on the West Village G and H proposal in the spring of 2002, the company is putting the finishing touches on the two-year, $93,-$500,000 project.
The taller of the two buildings, West Village H is being rushed for a Summer Semester I opening, May said. The first four floors of the building will be home to the College of Computer and Information Science and equipped with wireless technology, as well as seven research labs, three computer labs and two general-use classrooms.
Upstairs, the 209 residents of the 47 apartment-style rooms will be treated to amenities like spacious lounge areas with wireless Internet connections. Space is a key issue in West Village H, and each resident floor between floors five and 14 only has four apartments.
The top floor provides a breathtaking view of Boston and surrounding areas, including into Fenway Park.
The view from the base of the tower will be pleasant as well. From Huntington Avenue, a wall of glass will run the length of the interior on each of the first four floors. At night, the glass will appear to be glowing due to translucent lights.
