Music, comedy and fashion are only a few of the things the Council for University Programs (CUP) are planning for Springfest. Although many of the details – like ticket prices, times and other entertainers attending – are still to be announced. CUP is working hard on the current line-up for the week of March 29 to April 2.
Springfest will kick off on Monday, March 29 with “Comedy Night” in Blackman Auditorium. Students will be entertained by a comedian who has yet to be announced. No events are planned for Tuesday, due to the closing of International Carnevale, a month long series of events that celebrate cultural awareness; Springfest events will continue the next day.
CUP plans to hold a karaoke night on Wednesday, co-sponsored by Hammered, at afterHOURS. Singers can compete for prizes.
On Thursday, a Northeastern version of “Fashionably Loud” and “Singled Out,” two MTV shows, will take place in Matthews Arena. The Spike Team, a Boston-based group whose specialtiy is bicycle and skateboarding tricks, will be the entertainment during intermission. Students who wish to participate can attend CUP’s fashion committee meeting Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. in 433 Curry Student Center.
On Friday, the last day of Springfest, Jurassic 5, a hip-hop group, will open for Ludacris.
This will be “one of the best college concerts to occur this year,” said Tom Kneafsey, president of CUP.
The concert will take place at night, but the time has yet to be determined. Tickets will be sold at the cashier’s office. Organizers hope the event will sell out to NU students, but if there are extra tickets they will be sold through Ticketmaster. CUP has yet to set a price for the concert tickets.
