It seems recently there have been many letters regarding the scandalous “sex” section of the NU News, most of them (if not all) with negative connotations and tones. I for one do not mind the columns. I do not see what the big deal is. It is just harmless journalism. If you don’t like reading it, or if you feel offended by it, DON’T READ IT. It’s that simple, just turn the page. Out of sight, out of mind. You can’t honestly think that sex isn’t going on in college. This is not Brigham Young University, people. For those of you who claim that you are waiting for marriage and feel pressured or offended by these outrageous stories, I commend you. That is your life choice and I respect that. But in all honesty, these columns (especially the “SEXcapades” column) are doing no harm. It’s just like turning on the radio. If you don’t like the song, change the station or turn it off. Same scenario. If you don’t like what’s written, turn the page. And some people argue that we should have columns about STDs or more serious topics, rather than these tongue-in-cheek, more comical topics. Not a bad idea, but how many times can we read about herpes and genital warts? That’s what high school health class was for. We all know that STDs are bad and we are supposed to wear condoms. Condoms rock. Yes yes, good good. That’s almost like common sense or second nature by now. Everyone knows to wear condoms. So really, everyone needs to chill out about this controversial section. It’s not hurting anyone. If anything it’s providing comic relief and light-heartedness to a simple college newspaper. Remember, just because you don’t approve of something, doesn’t mean everyone else does too.
