The Northeastern baseball team (21-9, 7-2 CAA) won its third conference series against the Campbell University Camels (14-17, 5-4 CAA).
Northeastern took the first game of the series 14-8, April 4.
The Huskies got started early, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Junior infielder Jack Goodman’s triple brought in junior outfielder Cam Maldonado 1-0. Two walks and a hit-by-pitch doubled the lead. Redshirt freshman catcher Will Fosberg scored on a wild pitch to put his team up 3-0.
The Camels struck back in the bottom of the first inning. A throwing error by junior infielder Carmelo Musacchia and a bunt put two runners on base. Senior outfielder Dalen Thompson’s three-run home run leveled the score at 3-3. Following two more walks, graduate student left-handed pitcher Will Jones was replaced by senior right-handed pitcher Brett Dunham. A fielding error by Goodman brought in two runs, 5-3. The final run of the inning was scored off a ground out by redshirt junior catcher Jack Thompson, 6-3.
In the top of the second inning, with a runner on base, Maldonado homered to left field to score two runs and bring the Huskies within one at 6-5.
Campbell pulled away again in the bottom of the second inning. A walk and two home runs by redshirt junior infielder Joey Morton made the score 8-5.
Two walks and a double from graduate student first baseman Alex Lane brought in a run in the top of the third inning. A fielder’s choice scored another run, once again bringing Northeastern within one run, 8-7.
Goodman led off the top of the fourth inning with a single to center field. A hit-by-pitch and failed pick off attempt put two runners in scoring position. Goodman scored on a sacrifice foul out to tie the game at 8-8.
Graduate student catcher Gregory Bozzo doubled to left field, and Musacchia’s bunt single put two runners on for the Huskies in the top of the seventh inning. A walk loaded the bases. Goodman singled to give his team the lead, 10-8. Redshirt junior outfielder Harrison Feinberg doubled to bring in two more runs, 12-8.
In the top of the eighth inning, Bozzo scored on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 13-8.
The final run of the contest came off of Lane’s single home run to left center field, finishing scoring at 14-8.
Northeastern sealed the series victory April 5 with an 8-1 win.
Maldonado singled and was advanced to second by a sacrifice bunt before being brought in off Feinberg’s single to put the Huskies up 1-0 in the top of the first inning.
In the top of the third inning, Feinberg singled to advance Maldonado to third base. Senior infielder Jack Doyle scored Maldonado with a single to left field. Fosberg singled to second base to put two runners in scoring position. Bozzo singled to left field to bring in Doyle and Feinberg, making the score 4-0.
A walk, single and fielder’s choice put Northeastern up 5-0 in the top of the fourth inning.
The Huskies notched two more runs to go up 7-0 in the top of the sixth inning. Lane began hitting with a single to the left side. Lane advanced to third off a throwing error by redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher Mason Smith. Sophomore outfielder Ryan Gerety and Feinberg were walked to bring in two runs.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, freshman outfielder and right-handed pitcher Jett Music scored from two singles to score the Camels’ only run of the game, 7-1.
Doyle’s solo home run to left field marked the final run of the contest in the top of the ninth inning, 8-1.
Northeastern dropped the final match of the series 18-8 April 6.
Two singles and a fielding error by freshman infielder Henry DiGiorgio put Campbell up 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

In the top of the third inning, the Huskies scored six runs to take the lead. Bozzo led off the inning with a single to right field. He advanced to third off of an error. Maldonado was intentionally walked to load the bases. Gerety was walked to bring in a run. Feinberg’s four-run shot put his team up 5-1. Doyle followed with his second solo homer of the series, 6-1.
A double by Thompson and a single by redshirt sophomore catcher Andrew Schuldt in the bottom of the third inning made the score 6-2.
Three batters hit by pitches by graduate student left-handed pitcher Jared Gottesman and senior left-handed pitcher Jack Bowery in the bottom of the fourth inning reduced the Camels’ deficit to 6-3. With the bases loaded, redshirt junior outfielder Joe Simpson singled to bring in a run, 6-4. Thompson singled to score another run, getting his team within one. Another run was walked in, evening the score at 6-6. A bases-clearing grand slam by Schuldt gave Campbell the lead, 10-6. Sophomore infielder Charlie Meglio’s solo shot was the final run of the inning, 11-6.
Bozzo began the top of the sixth inning with a single to left field. DiGiorgio reached on a fielding error. Musacchia’s groundout brought in Bozzo, cutting the lead to 11-7. Maldonado singled to left field to score DiGiorgio, 11-8.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Morton and Schuldt singled to put two runners on base. Sophomore outfielder Seth Farni doubled to score Morton, 12-8. Meglio notched his second homer of the day with a three-run shot to left field to put Campbell up 15-8.
The Camels scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Morton walked and Schuldt reached base on an error to give their team two base runners. A double by Farni scored both players, 17-8.
The Huskies were run-ruled in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sophomore infielder Darnell Parker Jr. singled and advanced to second off of a walk. Parker scored from a single by Thompson, 18-8.
This loss snapped the Huskies’ nine game winning streak.
Northeastern will face off against the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils (18-4, 14-1 Northeast) in a midweek contest April 9.
