The No. 1 Northeastern baseball team (46-9, 25-2 CAA) defeated the No. 4 College of Charleston (35-20, 15-12 CAA) in a 6-0 shutout Thursday for its first 2025 CAA Baseball Championship game.
The Huskies started out strong, scoring two runs in the first inning. Sophomore right fielder Ryan Gerety led off with a single to right field, followed by back-to-back walks to junior center fielder Cam Maldonado and redshirt junior left fielder Harrison Feinberg to load the bases with no outs. Junior shortstop Jack Goodman fouled out to second base, allowing Gerety to score and give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Junior second baseman Carmelo Musacchia then hit an RBI single through the left side to double the lead.
Adding one more in the third inning, Feinberg showed why he won Co-CAA Player of the Year as he smashed a solo shot to right-center field for the 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Musacchia knocked another opposite field solo homer to increase the lead to 4-0.
A couple innings later, in the seventh, Goodman got on base with a walk, setting up a two-run shot by junior designated hitter Matt Brinker — the Huskies’ third home run of the game — to make it 6-0.
Graduate student starting left-handed pitcher Will Jones had yet another impressive outing, earning his program-record breaking 11th win of the season. The victory set a new single-season record, breaking a record that hadn’t been touched since 1994. Jones allowed just three hits, two walks and no runs against the Cougars.
Junior right-handed pitcher Charlie Walker finished off the game for the final three innings, striking out two batters and allowing just one hit. This is the fourth shutout this season between the pair.
This game marks Northeastern’s 17th shutout of the season, the most in the nation. The Huskies are now tied for fifth all-time in NCAA Division I history for shutouts in a single season.
Northeastern’s defense has yet to allow a run against the Cougars in 34 innings this season.
This contest marks the Huskies’ 25th consecutive win, and they will face either No. 2 UNCW or No. 3 Campbell Friday night for the CAA semifinal.
