The Northeastern men’s cross country team competed in its first meet of the season Sept. 5 at the Friar Invitational hosted by Providence College.
The Huskies placed first in the men’s 6K with 58 points and an average time of 18:48. Dartmouth College and Boston University’s teams placed second and third, respectively, with 59 points each.
Six teams competed at the meet, including Brown University, Boston University, Dartmouth College, University of Rhode Island and Providence College.
Northeastern had three runners place within the top 10 of the 6K, more than any other team at the meet. Sophomore Nico Boyle placed third with a time of 18:29.6, the runner’s personal best in the 6K, which helped to propel the Huskies to first place. In addition to Boyle, freshmen Dawson French and Jack Seagroatt stood fifth and 10th respectively.
With two out of six freshmen for Northeastern placing top 10 and taking first place, the Huskies set a strong precedent and have a promising rest of the season ahead.
The Huskies race next at the Maribel Sanchez Invitational in New Hampshire Saturday, Sept. 20.
