Senior defenseman and men’s hockey captain Vinny Borgesi was named to the U.S. Collegiate Selects team roster to compete for the 2025 Spengler Cup, the team announced Nov. 6.
The captain will travel to Switzerland for the U.S. team’s face-off against Canada for the first round of the tournament, starting Dec. 26. The tournament will last six days, and each team will play between three and five games.
Borgesi will join 24 NCAA student-athletes from across the country.
So far this season, Borgesi scored two goals, collected two assists and had 19 blocks. Under his leadership, the Huskies’ record improved to 6-1-0, beating several high-ranking teams, including the College of the Holy Cross, University of Denver and University of Massachusetts, as well as sweeping Boston College. These wins helped the team move into the NCAA men’s hockey rankings top 20, stamping its place at No. 14.
The captain has 13 goals and 51 assists in the 106 games of his Northeastern career.
Borgesi was named Hockey East Defender of the Month in December 2024 and Defensive MVP in both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons.
