Senior defender Sabrina Araujo-Elorza was called up to represent her home country, Venezuela, for the Liga de Naciones Femenina, according to a post by Northeastern women’s soccer Oct. 30, 2025.
This league, also known as the CONMEBOL Women’s Nations League, is a new tournament for South American teams en route to qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The CONMEBOL Liga de Naciones Femenina began Oct. 24, 2025, and will run until June 9, 2026. Nine teams across South America will play for two direct spots in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Araujo-Elorza faced two international matches as a part of the 2025 Venezuelan National Team, holding Chile to a 0-0 draw and winning 2-1 over Paraguay.
Araujo-Elorza also represented Venezuela before this year, notably playing for the 2024 U20 Women’s World Cup and the 2022 South American Women’s soccer championship, or Copa América Femenina. She also represented the Venezuelan National Team in one other season for two international friendlies against Argentina in 2023.
This season at Northeastern, Araujo-Elorza has been a major contributor to the Huskies’ backline and also had an assist for the winning goal against Stony Brook University in a CAA matchup.
With the women’s soccer season coming to a close, Araujo-Elorza now has the opportunity to represent her nation as the team progresses through the FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
