Northeastern swim and dive (6-2) wrapped up its season at the CAA championships at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Va. Feb. 25 to 28. The team placed fourth overall, with a bronze medal in 1-meter diving and a gold in the 200-yard butterfly.
The meet was run as a trials finals meet with a preliminary round in the morning followed by a round of finals at night. Finals involved a championship final for the top eight athletes, as well as an eight-swimmer consolation final and an eight-swimmer bonus final.
The Huskies started off the championship weekend with the 200-yard medley relay. The Northeastern team consisting of senior Anna Verlander, graduate student Elisabeth Bendall, freshman Alex Fuller and junior May Bradburn, took fifth in a time of 1:42.11.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Northeastern again took fifth (7:29.36), with a team consisting of junior Mary Nordmann, freshman Siena Griffiths, freshman Abigail Gowern and Bradburn.
The team finished Wednesday off in fifth place with 100 points, just six points behind Drexel University. William & Mary took an early lead with 120 points to end the day on the women’s side.
Thursday night finals started off with the 500-yard freestyle. Northeastern had three athletes competing in the bonus heat of the finals. Gowern (4:59.07) took 18th, Griffiths (5:00.90) took 21st and junior Bella Busconi (5:05.43) took 24th.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Northeastern had one athlete in the consolation finals, as well as two in the bonus finals. Freshman Alex Campion (2:04.67) took 12th from the consolation finals, meanwhile, freshman Sophie Bromley (2:05.77) took 17th and senior Teagan Osga (2:07.49) took 20th in the bonus finals.
Northeastern had two athletes, Bradburn (23.06) and Nordmann (23.11), in the championship finals of the 50-yard freestyle relay. The pair took sixth and seventh, respectively. In the consolation final, Fuller (23.17) tied for 10th, and senior Kotoko Blair (23.43) took 14th. In the bonus finals, Verlander (23.72) tied for 19th.
In 3-meter diving, senior Anelise Kim earned third (270.10), winning the first medal of the meet for the Huskies. Freshman Kailyn Aquino (235.05) took seventh. In the consolation finals, freshman Tyler Ostrom (202.60) took 12th.
Northeastern earned its second medal of the meet in the 400-yard medley relay. The team consisting of Verlander, Campion, Fuller and Nordmann took home a bronze medal with the time of 3:43.12.
The team finished Thursday night in fourth with 342 points, trailing behind Towson University at 408.5 points.
Friday night preliminaries started off with a fourth place finish for Northeastern from Fuller (53.41) in the 100-yard butterfly. Also in the finals was Bradburn (54.85), who finished in seventh. In the consolation finals, Nordmann (54.70) took 10th, and sophomore Kate Kerber (56.42) took 16th. From the bonus finals, freshman Rory Keller (56.65) took 21st.
In the 400-yard individual medley, the Huskies’ top performer, Gowern (4:24.66), took 10th from the consolation finals. In the bonus finals, freshman Ceclia Traub (4:30.03) took 18th.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Northeastern had four athletes in the bonus finals. Griffiths (1:52.27) took 18th, Kerber (1:53.25) took 21st, freshman Eliana Auerbach (1:53.84) took 23rd and Blair (1:54.94) took 24th.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Northeastern again only had athletes in the bonus finals. Freshman Marea Li (1:05.33) took 17th, Campion (1:05.41) took 19th, Traub (1:05.77) took 21st and Bendall (1:05.82) took 22nd.
Verlander (54.29) took fifth in the 100-yard backstroke followed by Osga (55.50) in seventh. In the consolation finals, freshman Sophie Bromley (55.42) took ninth. In the bonus finals, sophomore Delaney Alonso (56.22) took 17th.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay finals, Northeastern medaled once again, taking third (1:30.99) with a team consisting of Nordmann, Fuller, Blair and Bradburn. They finished just 0.16 seconds behind the second place team from William and Mary.
At the end of Friday, Northeastern was maintaining its fourth place position with 614 points, just ahead of Drexel University, which had 603.5 points.
The final day of the meet started off with the 1,650-yard freestyle. The top finisher from the Huskies, Griffiths (17:08.16), took ninth, and following right behind her was Busconi (17:10.34), who took 10th. Gowern (17:24.35) rounded it out for the Huskies with a 15th place finish.
Verlander just missed the podium in the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.46), touching in fourth just 0.25 seconds behind third place. In the consolation finals, Bromley (2:00.94) and Alonso (2:01.41) took ninth and 10th, respectively. Osga joined them in the heat (2:03.51) and took 14th. In the bonus finals, Campion (2:03.58) and Keller (2:04.00) took 19th and 20th, respectively.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Fuller (50.30) took sixth in the finals. In the consolation heat of the finals, Bradburn (50.87) took 10th, and in the bonus finals, Blair (51.84) took 23rd.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, Northeastern’s only finalist, Auerbach (2:21.29), took 15th.
Nordmann delivered Northeastern its only first place finish of the meet in the 200-yard butterfly, breaking the program record with a time of 2:00.29. In the consolation finals, Kerber (2:06.74) took 14th. In the bonus final, Keller (2:07.41) took 17th, and sophomore Peyton Knightly (2:09.29) took 19th.
Kim once again medaled in the 1-meter diving, taking third place (270.75). Aquino (235.25) took ninth from the consolation finals, and Ostrom (212.80) took 13th.
In the final event of the day, Northeastern took home bronze, as well as a new program record, in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team consisting of Fuller, Nordmann, Blair and Bradbrun finished in a time of 3:20.70.
The Huskies finished out the meet in fourth place with a score of 980 points. William & Mary took first with 1,647.
The team has concluded their season and will be back in action in the 2026-27 school year. The Huskies continued their slow and steady growth this year, and next season should continue the excitement as the current freshman class continues to develop.
