Northeastern men’s hockey senior captain and defenseman Vinny Borgesi signed his first NHL contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team announced in an Instagram post March 18.
Borgesi, a Philadelphia native, signed a two-year contract with the Toronto-based team beginning in the 2026-27 season. As a defender on Northeastern’s team, he played 135 games and scored 16 goals — four of which were game winners — and blocked 197 shots. Last season, he also had the most ice time in the NCAA with 28:04 minutes.
During his time at Northeastern, he has shown elite skill and improvement, stepping into a leadership role as captain this season. He has won various awards from Hockey East, including Hockey East Defender of the Month in December 2024, and he was a 2026 Hobey Baker Award nominee.
“Super excited to sign my first NHL contract with @mapleleafs. Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way!” Borgesi said in a joint Instagram post with Northeastern’s men’s hockey March 19.
