Northeastern men’s basketball’s redshirt freshman forward Xander Alarie plans to enter the transfer portal, according to an X post by League Ready’s Sam Kayser March 30.
The Bethesda, Md. native has three years of eligibility remaining after redshirting his first season at the University of Miami. As a Husky, he averaged 10.3 points per game and 7.4 rebounds before his season was cut short 11 games in due to a shoulder injury. Alarie scored 113 points, including a career-high 23 points against Harvard University in the third game of the season.
Alarie became the first Husky to record a double-double in consecutive games since Shawn James in 2005. He was named CAA Rookie of the Week after posting 12 points and eight rebounds against Rhode Island Dec. 22.
Alarie’s announcement comes after a disappointing season for the Huskies, who finished last in the CAA and recorded 24 losses. He joins the portal with senior guard LA Pratt, who also missed the majority of the season due to injury, junior guards JB Frankel and William Kermoury, sophomore guard Luca Soroa Schaller and freshman guard Xavier Abreu.
