Fuentes found opportunity on the Hill, growing loyalty despite many setbacks

For many Northeastern students, Parker Street is a road to Mission Hill, which, in turn, is known for its abundance of upperclassmen and its weekend apartment parties. But for Miguel Fuentes, owner of Fuentes Market, Mission Hill holds a bit more meaning – it is where he got his start as a small business owner, where he achieved and persevered despite tremendous setbacks, and where he invested in not only his own business, but in a community of people he holds dear to his heart.

Mayor moves to rehab, doesn’t miss a beat

Mayor Thomas M. Menino was transferred to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital on Monday after staying more than five weeks in an acute-care facility at Brigham and Women’s Hospital for a host of ailments. “We are happy to announce the mayor is being transferred to rehabilitation today to begin the next phase of his recovery and is excited to start working with a new care team to help him get back to where he was before this whole incident started,” Brigham and Women’s Dr. Charles Morris announced during a press conference Monday.

City offers abundance of ways to give thanks

Thanksgiving: the holiday that marks the peaceful, if historically inaccurate, breaking of bread between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans. It is a day devoted to gratitude, so this year, give thanks by giving your time to those less fortunate. ACLU criticizes BPD surveillance

The Boston Police Department (BPD) has been conducting unlawful surveillance on peaceful protesters, according to reports. “Policing Dissent,” a recent study by the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts (ACLUM) and the National Lawyers Guild, Massachusetts Chapter (NLG) provides a detailed account of BPD and its fusion center, the Boston Regional Intelligence Center (BRIC), illegally gathering information about Boston activists.
