Letter: The News should identify author of staff editorial

March 31, 2011
I don’t think that the The Huntington News’ editorial should be anonymous, because whoever wrote it should be made available for further discussion on the topic. Keeping the editorial anonymous doesn’t hold anyone responsible for the feelings it stirs up. If the editorial was meant to express the “views of the news organization,” this should be clearly explained. It doesn’t make sense to me that members of the staff can be protected by anonymity while students at large are often identified as the authors of “letters to the editor”.

Staff Editorial: Next president of SGA should be receptive to constructive criticism

March 31, 2011
One of the biggest problems The News has found with Student Government Association (SGA) is the inability of its members to take criticism. Time after time, the current student body president, Ryan Fox, has been overly defensive when stances and decisions that have been made within the group were questioned. While SGA members should stand behind their policy, they must be receptive to criticism and acknowledge what needs improvement.

Column: Human rights week offers opportunity for change

March 31, 2011
I have been thinking a lot about women’s rights lately – about human rights in general, actually.

Letter: Maloney will fulfill responsibility of presidency

March 31, 2011
My name is Sean Maloney and as I have been telling students for the past week and a half, I want to be YOUR Student Body President.

Letter: Determination, pride traits that mark Maloney

March 31, 2011
Sean Maloney has been a face of Northeastern as long as I have been here. In his roles as vice president for student services and executive vice president, he has the long-term experience in Student Government Association (SGA) to advocate for student’s at large. Yet, with all this experience comes some wisdom – he is realistic in knowing he cannot be at every students’ beck and call, but would like to work with senators to improve how they represent their colleges or special interest groups.

Letter: Sabo has experience necessary to make difference as student body president

March 31, 2011
Last Friday, when I was in Snell Library until the wee hours of the morning finishing up a philosophy paper, I thought, “What if the library wasn’t open at this hour?” A few days later I went to print out my American government term paper in my dorm room when I realized (three pages in) that my ink was out – I then booked it to the library knowing I could make it to a quick print station, swipe my Husky ID, and that my assignments would be there waiting.

Letter: Northeastern CUP dissapoints for second year

March 31, 2011
As spring emerges from the icy New England winter and the spring semester comes to a close, the Northeastern student body looks forward to one thing: Springfest. The concert, bringing in huge names like last year’s headliner, Drake, is an event known not only to the Northeastern community, but college students everywhere who will travel from other schools to attend the event. Wiz Khalifa, Third Eye Blind, Taking Back Sunday, Mac Miller and Northeastern DJ Ridin’ Qwerty, are set to play Matthews Arena Saturday, April 9.

Letter: Sabo best choice for president

March 31, 2011
In the coming days, the students of Northeastern have a legitimate chance to make a substantial difference at their university. It is surprising to me too, but I’m actually talking about the elections for student body president that began yesterday. This is your opportunity to choose who will run Northeastern’s Student Government Association (SGA).

Letter: Fox made the right call

March 24, 2011
Four years ago I was a part of the Student Senate when the first modern direct election of the Student Body President took place. Two years ago I ran as a candidate against incumbent President Ryan J. Fox. Last year I took on the responsibility of ensuring the promotion of the election to the student body. Today I live in Wisconsin, but I’m still in touch with many friends who are still involved on-campus at Northeastern and keep up-to-date on what’s going on through social media.

Staff Editorial: Asking students for senior gift an outrageous request

March 24, 2011
Each year, graduating Huskies are asked to donate a minimum amount of money to Northeastern as their “senior gift.” This year, the amount they’re being asked to donate is $20.11. While it’s made to look cute, what with the $20.11 symbolizing the “Class of 2011,” it seems like a slap in the face to the many students who are having enough trouble getting by as it is.
