Column: Student center should offer healthier options

December 9, 2010
Since coming to Northeastern, my diet has gone down a slippery slope. Pizza, burgers, fries, tacos, you name it. I haven’t been eating the healthiest of foods while at college. Because of my busy schedule, I do not have enough time to sit down at the dining hall or run back home for lunch, so I usually grab something quick. I try to fit in my fruits and vegetables during the day, but most of the time I rely a lot on the food at the Curry Student Center.

Letter: Students should appreciate Matthews Arena

December 9, 2010
Almost every day I walk down Gainsborough Street, crossing St. Botolph Street before finally making my way to Huntington Avenue. Almost everyday I walk past Matthews Arena. But not everyday do I really take the time to appreciate the historic facility. Matthews Arena, formerly known as Boston Arena, is the original home of the Boston Celtics.

Editorial: Eliminating activities periods will ultimately benefit students

December 9, 2010
In an article last week, The News reported on a proposed plan that will create 226 new sections for classes by eliminating activities periods Wednesdays and Thursdays. This is ultimately meant to benefit students and the entire Northeastern community. Simply put, there are not enough classrooms available to meet student demand for classes and sections.

Letter: Northeastern housing office is an annoyance

December 2, 2010
A single room recently opened up in my suite, so I asked for it to be transferred to me. Spring housing assignments recently came out, and I found out some random senior (who I am pretty sure isn’t guaranteed housing) ended up with it.

Editorial: As a democracy, SGA must be more transparent for students

December 2, 2010
The News reported on Sept. 23 on the decision made by the Student Government Association (SGA) to no longer allow reporters from The News into Finance Board meetings. (Finance Board was previously known as the Budget Review Committee, or BRC). Board members justified this decision by saying that they deal with sensitive material in meetings, and all the numbers would be posted online after meetings for the entire student body to see.

Editorial: International co-op must be marketed

November 16, 2010
Our generation has ample opportunities to see the world through programs offered both by our own schools and programs outside of them, but some programs are marketed better than others.

Column: YMCA dorms will benefit students, community

November 16, 2010
Northeastern recently struck a deal to create more dormitories for students seeking on campus housing. The university is leasing space from Phoenix Property Co., which is purchasing wings of the YMCA to build dorms and apartments for students. I believe this new purchase is beneficial to Northeastern because of the housing wait list for many incoming students.

Letter: Northeastern has chance to excel in research

November 16, 2010
As Northeastern forges ahead in elite company, aiming to create some of the world’s most innovative research and science, we as a community will need to answer some vital and complex questions to ensure Northeastern’s future momentum and success in this area. Especially if we expect to succeed in creating the best research environments that are not only truly innovative but also foster the best collaborative partnerships to unlock the greatest scientific discoveries.

Editorial: NU should expand gender-neutral housing

November 10, 2010
The option of living in gender neutral housing has been available to Huskies since 2009. At that point, International Village became the only option on campus should students want to cohabitate with members of the opposite sex. Only about 64 students are currently living in gender neutral housing (up 49 beds from last year).
