Column: Beanpot is brewin’

Sometimes, I really hate January. The weather is disgusting, there's no baseball, the NBA and NHL are mired in regular season dullness (though you wouldn't have known it with some exciting wins for the B's and C's over the long weekend), and the Super Bowl is still weeks away. Luckily, on the college sports side of things, January is usually when hockey season picks up the pace and the basketball conference schedule ramps up.

As heavy snow fell on Boston and locals needed shovels to dig themselves clear of the inclement weather, the men’s basketball team was in the midst of trying to dig itself clear of an inclement stretch. An 86-60 loss to visiting George Mason last night dropped the Huskies to 4-12 overall and 0-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The loss was Northeastern’s sixth consecutive defeat.

Swimming & Diving: Squad trains in Puerto Rico

January 13, 2011
The swimming & diving team had the pleasure of traveling to Puerto Rico during winter break from Jan. 2-9. The trip served as an opportunity for the team to bond and train for the rest of the season, all while soaking up some much needed sun.

Player of the Week: Dinko Marshavelski

When Dinko Marshavelski of the men’s basketball team scored 23 points against James Madison University (JMU) Jan. 3, no one was more surprised than Marshavelski himself.

Column: New year, new start

January 13, 2011
It’s no secret that the first half of the season has been a struggle both on the ice and the court for the Huskies. Both men’s teams are loaded with freshmen and sophomores – who have a lot of raw talent, but not much experience.

Men’s Basketball: Huskies offense hits rock bottom

January 10, 2011
The men’s basketball team’s matchup against Old Dominion University (ODU) Wednesday made for a record-setting night. Unfortunately for the Huskies, none of the records were worth bragging about.

Men’s Basketball: Huskies take two of three in Cancun

December 29, 2010
CANCUN, Mexico – As 19th-century philosopher Henry David Thoreau once said, “Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves.” The men’s basketball team’s experience at the Cancun Governor’s Cup in Cancun, Mexico, Dec. 22 to 24 is a prime example of Thoreau’s words coming to life.
