The swimming & diving team faced a slew of opponents at the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) pod meet at James Madison University Saturday and Sunday.
Despite outshooting No. 11 William & Mary 16-10 and having a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks, the men’s soccer team fell 2-1 in overtime Saturday on Senior Day at Parsons Field.

The field hockey team guaranteed itself a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament with a 4-3 overtime win against Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Friday, despite a 4-1 loss to James Madison University (JMU) Sunday. This is the first time Northeastern has been represented in the CAA tournament since 2007.
Head coach Tracey Leone and the women’s soccer team have high hopes for next year after a roller coaster season capped off by a 2-1 double-overtime loss, she said.
“We’re really excited about next year’s recruitment class and we’re thrilled about the promise of the future,” Leone said. “We’re going to miss the senior class a lot, though. They brought a lot to the table.”
The men’s soccer team’s 1-0 double overtime loss to Old Dominion University (ODU) last Saturday summed up its entire season as the Huskies topped their opponent in shots on goal, but came up short after ODU forward Daniel Lidster scored in the 105th minute.
The Huskies dropped to 3-4-3 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play and 5-8-3 on the season, and their playoff hopes are in jeopardy.
There’s something about those last 20 minutes that the men’s hockey team just can’t figure out.
“To be perfectly honest, we’re trying to figure that out ourselves,” said sophomore goaltender Chris Rawlings, who has stopped more shots (193) than all but two Division I goalies in the NCAA. “It’s a lot of things. When it comes to the third period, I don’t know. I really don’t know what to say.”
The women’s hockey team’s six-game winning streak came to an end last night. Despite coming out strong in the first period, the Huskies fell to No. 6 Boston College Eagles 3-1 at Matthews Arena.
The swimming & diving team improved its record to 2-0 Saturday, defeating Boston College 165-127. The Huskies won the first eight events, and took 12 of 16 total.
“Beating Boston College is always a good feeling,” head coach Roy Coates said. “They’ve been a rival of ours from the start, so it was a big win. The kids are competing, whether it be in practice or in the actual races, and it’s been great to see them carry their intensity over to the meets. We’re just glad to come away with the win.”
The volleyball team is back in the playoff hunt after beating Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) 3-1 Friday and William & Mary by the same score Saturday.
Northeastern sits fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and is one game out of the fourth and final playoff spot, after Delaware University beat both George Mason University (GMU) and James Madison University (JMU) last week. The Huskies are 16-9 on the season (7-4 CAA), and have three games left, two of which are against GMU and JMU.
