Men’s Hockey: Huskies skid to 1-5-2 start

The men’s hockey team gained only one point in Hockey East standings (1-5-2) after a weekend home-and-home series against No. 6 Merrimack College. The point was earned from a 1-1 tie Friday at Merrimack, before Saturday’s 3-2 loss at home. Northeastern moved into a sixth place tie with the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in the standings.

Swimming & Diving: Huskies win two in Pod meet

This weekend, the Northeastern swimming and diving team competed in their first major intrasquad meet of a relatively young season, defeating two out of the four schools at the meet. The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Pod Meet, held in Fairfax, Va., slated George Mason University (GMU), James Madison University (JMU), Old Dominion University (ODU), and the College of William & Mary against the Huskies.

Men’s hockey team taken down by UNH

The men’s hockey team is still looking for their first road win after a 5-2 loss at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Saturday, Oct. 29. The loss dropped them to 1-4-1 on the season (1-4-1 Hockey East).

Coyne is star as Huskies cash in on freshman

The women’s hockey team got its 6th win of the season last weekend when they beat the University of Maine Black Bears 3-2 Friday night in Orono. Freshman forward Kendall Coyne continued her scoring streak and netted the opening goal on a penalty shot, helping the Huskies improve to 6-1-0 in 2011.

Despite loss, field hockey CAA championships bound

The field hockey team will advance to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championships after ending the regular season second in the conference after Towson University snapped the team’s eight game winning streak last Sunday in a 1-0 defeat. This followed the Huskies 2-1 win against Drexel Unviersity Friday.

A Winter Classic

Northeastern hockey fans are finally going to get what they’ve been clamoring for. Although it hasn’t been officially announced yet, Andrew Merritt of hockeyjournal.com reported that the men’s hockey game originally scheduled for Jan. 14 at Boston College, will be moved to Fenway Park, home of the beloved Boston Red Sox.

Despite loss, women’s soccer in playoffs

Northeastern’s playoff fate was put in jeopardy Saturday when they lost a 3-0 senior day contest to Hofstra University, but after the remaining conference matches unfolded over the weekend, the Huskies found themselves heading to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament anyways. A tournament victory would result in an automatic bid into the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship.

Player of the Week: Eric Jenkins

Sophomore runner Eric Jenkins became the first ever Northeastern University athlete to win the Colonial Athletic Assoscation (CAA) cross country championship. He ran the 8k in 24:46, his personal best, and won the 58-man race by 19 seconds. Jenkins’ performance has earned him The Huntington News Player of the Week honors.

Men’s hockey drops lead, falls to BC in OT

In front of an over-capacity crowd of 4,746, the men’s hockey team fell to 1-3-1 on the season after a disappointing weekend with losses at No. 13 Merrimack College Friday and against No. 2 Boston College at home on Saturday.

Junior forward Crystal Poland moved to the top of the national scoreboard after scoring her 25th goal Sunday against Boston University, helping the Huskies extend their winning streak to seven games.
