Column: The off-campus fallacy

Second semester is here, and in many ways it’s a bit disappointing the world didn’t end last month. Especially for all of you sophomores who have a firmly set group of friends from freshman year and are wandering into Off Campus Student Services and making calls to real estate agents. YMCA residents lament construction

Huntington News: What are the Resident Student Association's responsibilities at Northeastern? Tina Sherman: RSA's primary responsibility is to improve the on-campus living experience for Northeastern residents. We do this through two main means: Programming and advocacy. Throughout the year we put on various large-scale events to engage students. These range from speakers and comedians to trivia nights, barbecues or our famous 24-hour scavenger hunt, Husky Hunt. We also work on various advocacy initiatives including sending representatives to the Food Advisory Board to suggest dining hall improvements, or working to fix broken laundry machines in the halls.

Heating unit culprit in apartment fire

Boston Fire Department officials cite a faulty heating and ventilation unit as the cause of a a three-alarm fire Monday morning that ripped through a Westland Avenue building, displacing a dozen Northeastern University students. No one was injured in the fire, but BFD Spokesman Steve MacDonald said in a news release issued Tuesday damages were around $400,000 and are expected to rise. It could be weeks before any of the 40-45 apartment residents are allowed to move back in.

Housing puts focus on LLCs

Despite a raft of changes that has boosted the number of Living and Learning Communities (LLC) and expanded gender-neutral housing, housing officials expect room assignments for incoming freshmen and returning students to go smoothly.
