The Northeastern men’s freshman eight won the bronze medal at the 2012 Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships in Camden, N.J., last weekend, marking the first time since 1994 that the freshman eight has won a medal.

CAA structure shaken up after Old Dominion, Virginia Commonwealth announce plans to leave conference

Two Colonial Athletic Association universities and Northeastern rivals – Virginia Commonwealth University and Old Dominion University – announced plans last week to pull out of the CAA for more competitive conferences. VCU said May 15 it will leave the CAA for the Atlantic 10 effective July 1, and ODU said May 17 it will join Conference USA for the 2013-14 season. In early April, Georgia State University started this trend when it announced it had accepted an invitation to join the Sun Belt Conference for the 2013-14 season.

Basketball ends season with CAA quarterfinal loss

The Huskies hung tough with the Rams and entered halftime tied at 26, a season-high 25 turnovers did Northeastern in. The squad fell 76-65 in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Virginia 529 College Savings Plan Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Basketball Championship at the Richmond Coliseum. Northeastern ends its 2011-12 campaign at 14-17.

CAA tourney awaits NU

Last time William & Mary and Northeastern met Feb. 11, the Huskies walked away with a 79-54 defeat. The two lines will tip off one more time in Richmond, Va., for the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament tomorrow night.

Junior guard Joel Smith’s 24 points weren’t enough to save the Huskies’ last regular season game, an 82-72 loss to the University of Delaware Blue Hens Saturday.

In his last regular-season home game, senior forward Kashief Edwards scored a career-high 22 points as the Huskies handed Colonial Athletic Association No. 2 George Mason University its third conference loss, 85-82, last night.

Three-pointers can’t lift Huskies over Stony Brook

Junior guard Joel Smith sunk six of 10 attempted three-pointers Saturday, but it wasn’t enough for the men’s basketball team to secure a win against Stony Brook University, losing 76-69 at home.

The men’s basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak Tuesday by giving the then-1-26 Towson University Tigers a Valentine’s Day they are sure to remember with a 70-51 blowout in Boston.

Men’s hoops handed third straight road loss

The men’s basketball team needed a win at William & Mary Saturday night to swing momentum back into their direction, but as they concluded their three game road trip. A one-sided blowout by the Tribe handed the Huskies their fourth straight loss and a road sweep, losing the contest by 25 points, 79-54.

Coming off of two straight losses, the men’s basketball team needed a win at Georgia State University (GSU) to bring its season record to .500. Despite a hard-fought second half for the Huskies, they fell just short of a victory last night, losing 62-59.
