Three-pointers can’t lift Huskies

When the men’s basketball team last met Drexel University Jan. 21 in Philadelphia, a vast disparity in three point shooting between the Dragons and Huskies allowed Drexel to cruise to a 71-53 victory. Northeastern managed to shoot only two of 10 beyond the arc in that game while Drexel was a scorching nine of 14.

Northeastern downed Hofstra University 58-51 at Matthews Arena Saturday thanks to balanced scoring from junior guard Jonathan Lee, freshman guard/forward Quincy Ford and freshman forward Reggie Spencer.

Three hundred thirty-one miles separate Drexel University’s Daskalakis Athletic Center in downtown Philadelphia from Old Dominion University’s Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Va. The Huskies hoopsters made this journey from Drexel to ODU to play two games in 48 hours, a scheduling quirk which has become common in the conference since the advent of the BracketBusters series in 2003.

As heavy snow fell on Boston and locals needed shovels to dig themselves clear of the inclement weather, the men’s basketball team was in the midst of trying to dig itself clear of an inclement stretch. An 86-60 loss to visiting George Mason last night dropped the Huskies to 4-12 overall and 0-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The loss was Northeastern’s sixth consecutive defeat.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – As each shot ripped through the net, the Huskies’ bench repeatedly exploded with joy. The men’s basketball team was off to a hot start shooting, as the Huskies took an 11-point lead over Providence College (PC) early in the first half of action last night at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. The Huskies, who shot 89 percent from the floor in the first four minutes of the game, seemed poised to upset the Friars and end their two-game losing skid.
