We meet again, Student Government Association (SGA) presidential elections. Like many others, I appreciate the programs and events that SGA sponsors on campus, but I also have my reservations and criticisms. I am also sure that many of us, because of past complications, are fairly...
If there is one concern I’ve heard from students about the Student Government
Association (SGA) throughout my four years at Northeastern, it is by far a concern about
how confusing it is to understand, or a concern for how much work is done that
is actually a benefit to...
Although the Student Government Association (SGA) president and executive vice president campaigns kicked off Tuesday, one presidential candidate still hasn’t received enough student signatures to be officially nominated.
After deciding Chick-fil-A would not be an option for Northeastern, officials explored other possible food vendors for the Curry Student Center food court.
“We are very pleased with the outcome of Monday night’s senate resolution to exclude Chick-fil-A from the group of vendors considered for a soon-to-be-renovated space at Northeastern’s Curry Student Center,” Director of Marketing and Communications Renata Nyul said in a statement Tuesday.
As part of the new budget, SGA’s chief of staff and executive director of communications will each receive a $788 stipend increase, bringing the amount from $1,575 to $2,363 a year. The SAF, a fee of $116 per year mandatory for all undergraduate students, funds all SGA stipends. The president’s $4,200 stipend will remain the same. Sabo said the rationale for stipends is that serving on SGA’s executive board is so time consuming that members cannot hold a part-time job.
President Joseph Aoun announced he is not in favor of tuition freezes – an idea that’s been thrown around in local and national politics lately – at a Student Government Association Senate meeting last Monday. Instead, he said he supports a financial aid increase to accompany...
The debate over Chick-fil-A, a company which has been accused of being an opponent of the LGBT community, erupted last week after Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Laura Wankel announced that the university is in negotiations to include a Chick-fil-A as part of a larger plan to renovate the food court in the Curry Student Center.
Students, along with Student Government Association (SGA) President Michael Sabo, got a chance to drink beer on the university’s dime Tuesday night as part of “Pint with the President,” an event designed to encourage responsible drinking and student feedback.
“I am not in favor of tuition freezes, I am in favor of financial aid increases,” Aoun said in response to a question from Senator Joshua Harris, a business administration major. “Over the last five years tuition on average has risen around 3.8 to 3.9 percent, but [the increase] in financial aid has doubled.”
The Student Government Association would like to take this opportunity to address the editorial published in last Thursday’s edition of The Huntington News. As an organization, it would be foolish of us not to recognize that there is always room for us to grow and improve....
Food vendors Sweet Tomatoes Neapolitan Pizza, Kigo Kitchen, UBurger and Chick-fil-A are in negotiations with the university to install locations in the Curry Student Center this summer, Dr. Laura Wankel, Northeastern’s vice president of student affairs announced last night. These additions to the Curry Student Center could push out some current vendors, including Wendy’s and D’Angelo Grilled Sandwiches.
