Entry of the week: Sunday, Feb. 23, 12:36 a.m.
A student living on Westland Avenue reported his downstairs neighbor, a tall male in his mid 20s, was attempting to gain access to his apartment. The neighbor was throwing garbage and water at the door to the apartment. The student reported that one of his roommates got into an argument with the man the night before, and that the man also tried to gain access to their apartment at that time. NUPD and BPD responded, and the residents of the apartment, all students, said they no longer felt safe in their apartment. Residential Life (ResLife) was unable to find a safe room for the students, but they were all able to find alternate places to stay for the night.
Monday, Feb. 17
6:51 p.m.
A student reported that his wallet was stolen on Feb. 16 from the Curry Student Center Ballroom at approximately 11 p.m. A Northeastern’s Public Safety Division (NUPD) officer responded to the report.
Wednesday, Feb. 19
10:25 a.m.
A Vanguard officer reported that a male student attempted to park in the Columbus Parking Garage without a proper decal. According to the officer, the driver claimed he had a decal but refused to show it to her, and began yelling profanities at her when she denied him access. The student then drove down Columbus Avenue towards the Renaissance Parking Garage.
3:13 p.m.
A services desk analyst reported that three microphones, valued at $400, were stolen from a West Village F room.
11:12 p.m.
A Resident Assistant (RA) at 157 Hemenway St. reported an odor of marijuana coming from Loftman Hall. Officers responded and spoke with two students from the building. The students were checked and officers confiscated less than one ounce of marijuana. The officers referred them to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution (OSCCR).
Thursday, Feb. 20
11:40 a.m.
A student walked into NUPD headquarters and reported that her iPhone 5 was stolen when she was in the Ruggles T station around 10 a.m.
12:40 p.m.
A student, who is also an RA, reported that she heard an alarm and smelled something burning in Burstein Hall. Officers responded and found something burning on the floor in the back bedroom of a dorm room. The officers extinguished the fire. The Boston Fire Department was notified around 12:57 p.m. and confirmed the fire was properly extinguished. A work order was filed to clean up the area. A later investigation revealed that a student was burning incense in his room.
7:28 p.m.
A student reported that his new bank card was taken from his mailbox in West Village G and was used at an ATM. Earlier that day, he received a call from TD Bank that his card was taken due to unsuccessful PINs and the student responded that he had not yet used his card. A report was filed.
11:15 p.m.
The Boston Police Department (BPD) heard an assault in progress inside Columbus Avenue’s New York Pizza. A BPD officer reported to the area, but the suspect fled from the area in a black Honda, towards Tremont Street. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.
Friday, Feb. 21
1:50 a.m.
A Metro Cab driver reported that a male and a female were having verbal altercations in the back of the cab. Officers spoke with the two, who are not affiliated with the university. The officers then notified Boston Emergency Medical Services (EMS) because one of them was highly intoxicated and not alert. The person was later transported to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The other person declined any services and left the area.
1:45 p.m.
A university staffer reported that an iPad was stolen sometime between 1:30 and 1:45 p.m. from the West Village F visitors center. Officers responded to the report.
6:41 p.m.
A student reported her $1,200 Macbook laptop was stolen from the Marino Center. An officer responded and reported the laptop was left unattended for an hour.
9:16 p.m.
An RA in 780 Columbus Ave. reported that an intoxicated underage student was vomiting in her room. Officers responded and requested Boston EMS. The student said she drank too much and could not remember how much she drank. She was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Resident Director (RD) was notified. She was referred to OSCCR.
10:58 p.m.
An RA in St. Stephens St. reported loud music coming from Light Hall. Officers responded, notified BPD and spoke to a student who agreed to end the music for the night. BPD response was cancelled.
Saturday, Feb. 22
12:05 a.m.
An officer stopped a student for public urination in the Burke Lot. The student was sent on his way with a warning.
Later that day
In an unrelated incident, Madhur Mittal, a 19-year-old student, was arrested by NUPD on Saturday for forcible rape. The case is ongoing.
7:01 p.m.
NUPD received two separate reports of a female in a brown coat who appeared confused walking around the Northeastern area. Officers found an intoxicated female, who is not affiliated with the university, on a sidewalk near Hemenway Street. Boston EMS was requested because the woman could no longer walk. She was transported to Boston Medical Center.
9:37 p.m.
A facility staff member reported that he was contacted about a power outage on the 18th floor of International Village east and told to call the police to inform them of possible foul play. An officer responded. Northeastern electricians restored power and replaced a fallen exit sign, which appeared to have been knocked down intentionally.
Sunday, Feb. 23
1:26 a.m.
Officers responded to a report that an intoxicated underaged female student locked herself in a stall in the third floor women’s bathroom in Stetson West. The student was conscious and alert, but did not know where she was or what time it was. She was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and the RD was notified.
2:44 a.m.
A resident of 772 Columbus Ave. reported an intoxicated female student who he did not know knocked on his door. He let her in the door. NUPD responded and determined that the student was conscious and alert, and not in need of medical attention. She admitted to drinking earlier in the evening, and said she got separated from her friends. Officers escorted her to her residence in Kennedy Hall and spoke to her roommate, who said she would be with the girl for the rest of the night and call if further assistance was needed.
3:34 p.m.
University of Massachusetts at Amherst (UMass Amherst) police contacted NUPD to report that a male Northeastern student was the perpetrator of a theft on UMass Amherst’s campus. The UMass Amherst officer requested that NUPD issue the student a trespass warning from UMass. The student will be summonsed to court.
