The Northeastern baseball team (27-9, 10-2 CAA) swept the Kansas State University Wildcats (23-14, 10-5 Big 12) April 15 and 16.
Northeastern took the first contest 11-4, April 15.
Graduate student infielder Seth Dardar opened the scoring for the Wildcats in the top of the first inning with a solo home run to right field, 1-0. Graduate student catcher Keegan O’Connor extended the team’s lead to 3-0 with a two-run home run.
A pair of singles by sophomore outfielder Ryan Gerety and redshirt junior outfielder Harrison Feinberg put two runners on for the Huskies in the bottom of the first inning. Both runners stole bases to move into scoring position. Gerety scored off of a single by senior infielder Jack Doyle and Feinberg scored from a throwing error in the same play for a 3-2 scoreboard.
In the bottom of the second inning, Northeastern leveled the score at three. Junior infielder Carmelo Musacchia singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a passed ball. Junior outfielder Cam Maldonado brought Musacchia home with a single to third base.
The Huskies took the lead in the bottom of the third inning, 5-3. Junior infielder Jack Goodman and redshirt freshman designated hitter Will Fosberg walked and advanced from a sacrifice bunt by Musacchia. Fosberg and Goodman scored on a throwing error by freshman second baseman Ty Smolinski.
Northeastern extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Maldonado and Feinberg walked to put two on before being brought in off of a fielder’s choice by Doyle, 6-3. Fosberg singled to right field to score two more runs.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, two singles put two runners on for Kansas State. Sophomore infielder Dee Kennedy scored on a throwing error by senior left-handed pitcher Jack Bowery, trimming Northeastern’s lead to 8-4.
However, the Huskies struck again with a solo home run by Feinberg that put Northeastern up 9-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Huskies put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the eighth inning. Maldonado singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Feinberg walked, and a pair of stolen bases put two in scoring position. Doyle doubled down the right field line to bring in both runners, making the score 11-4.
The game concluded with two strikeouts by senior right-handed pitcher Jack Beauchesne and a groundout.
Northeastern won the second and final game of the series 5-3 April 16.
In the bottom of the first inning, Maldonado doubled down the right field line and advanced to third on a failed pick off attempt. A sacrifice fly out by Feinberg brought Maldonado in to score, 1-0.
The Wildcats tied the game 1-1 in the top of the second inning after a hit-by-pitch and a single put two runners on base. Senior infielder David Bishop singled to left center field to score a run.
Northeastern took its second lead of the game in the bottom of the inning. Doyle was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a single by Musacchia. Senior utility player Justin Bosland laid down a sacrifice bunt scored to score Doyle, making it 2-1. Musacchia stole home to stretch the lead to 3-1.
In the top of the third inning, Kansas State evened the score for the second time. Freshman infielder AJ Evasco singled to bring in a run, 3-2. O’Connor’s grounded out and scored another run, 3-3.
Maldonado grabbed the Huskies’ third lead of the game with a one-run home run in the bottom of the third inning, 4-3.
Graduate student left-handed pitcher Max Gitlin capped the top of the fifth inning with a strikeout, marking a career-high seventh strikeout in a game.
In the top of the eighth inning, Feinberg robbed what would have been the game-tying home run to keep his team ahead.
The Huskies scored an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Maldonado walked and advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt. Goodman doubled down to left field to bring in Maldonado and put the team up 5-3.
A groundout and senior right-handed pitcher Brett Dunham’s two strikeouts closed out the game and secured the team’s series sweep.
Northeastern will look to extend its six game winning streak against the College of Charleston Cougars (21-13, 7-5 CAA) at home April 18 to 20.
