Northeastern’s women’s soccer (0-1-1, 0-0 CAA) fell in its second game this season to the University of Rhode Island Rams (3-0, 0-0 A10) 1-0 Aug. 21.
The Rams took the lead early as sophomore forward Kaia Rice scored her first goal of the season a little over 90 seconds into the game.
The Huskies had opportunities to even the scoreboard, taking six shots, but none were able to find the back of the net. URI took 13 shots in the game but was not able to widen the gap.
Offsides penalties kept the Huskies at bay in their attack, as they tallied four of these offenses, while the Rams took one.
On the other end of the field, junior goalkeeper Eliza Teplow notched seven saves, one shy of her career high.
Five Huskies played the full 90 minutes, including two freshmen, midfielder Hayden Sumner and defender Ava Gialanella. Gialanella also played the full game in Northeastern’s tie against Holy Cross. After a frustrating season last year, Sumner and Gialanella could bring fresh legs and energy to the team.
The team will take on University of Providence (1-0, 0-0 Big East) Aug. 24 at Parsons Field for the student home opener and senior game.
