A runner spreads her arms and smiles as she passes the Boylston Street cheering section at the finish line. Women made up more than 14,000 entrants in the 2026 race, representing roughly 40 to 45% of the field.

As clouded grays parted into sunny skies, spectators and runners alike donned yellow and blue in honor of the 130th Boston Marathon. The marathon featured over 30,000 participants and a record-breaking run done by men’s race winner John Korir, marking the day as a historic moment in time. Cheers, bells, whistles and witty signage encouraged marathoners to continue running across the iconic Boylston Street finish line.

Runners fill Commonwealth Avenue while running over Heartbreak Hill. The iconic hill earned its nickname after acclaimed marathoner Ellison “Tarzan” Brown beat his opponents at mile 20, breaking their hearts and their chances of winning the 1936 Boston Marathon.
