Highly acclaimed civil rights lawyer, advocate and legal scholar Michelle Alexander came to Northeastern on Feb. 20 to discuss the content of her book, “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness.”
The Northeastern research team, made up of primarily first- and second-year undergraduate students, was awarded $90,889 to develop technology to explore the permanently shadowed regions (PSRs) of the moon.

NU team wins funding in NASA’s BIG Idea Challenge

Northeastern University, along with eight other universities, is an awardee of NASA’s annual Breakthrough, Innovative and Game-Changing (BIG) Idea Challenge.
Northeastern’s faculty senate passed a resolution in which they recommended changing the Teacher Rating and Course Evaluation, or TRACE.

Faculty senate passes resolution to amend TRACE evaluations

In their meeting Wednesday, Northeastern’s faculty senate passed a resolution in which they recommended changing the Teacher Rating and Course Evaluation, or TRACE. The proposed revisions include making the survey itself shorter and adding questions regarding diversity and inclusion.
The group has published their findings on the MOBS website, including assessments on the risk of international spreading, the effect of travel restrictions and an early epidemiological analysis of 2019-nCoV.

For weeks, the spread of the new Coronavirus, or 2019-nCoV, has instilled fear globally. Last month, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern, encouraging all countries to be prepared for containment. As more cases are diagnosed, scientists around the world have been searching for answers as to how this disease spreads.

Anti-war and peace organizations protested Northeastern's relationship with Raytheon. The protest was hosted by Massachusetts Peace Action and Northeastern’s Students for Justice of Palestine, or NUSJP, along with several other organizations.
The building is located on Christian Science Plaza.

Northeastern purchases ‘Horticulture Hall’ on Mass. Ave.

Northeastern is purchasing “Horticulture Hall,” a historic Boston building on Massachusetts Avenue, according to a Thursday announcement. 
The N.U.in program, started in 2007, is a unique global experience in which first-year students spend their first semester of college abroad on campuses in Australia, Ireland, Germany, England, the Czech Republic, Canada, Greece or Italy.

The start of the spring semester at Northeastern has brought many new faces - most notably, the over 1,000 first-year students arriving on campus fresh off their first semester abroad with the N.U.in program. Along with the excitement of being on campus for the first time comes the difficulty of adjusting to a freshman year that is almost half over.
Rabin created the petition through Change.org in early December last year and it almost immediately gained traction.

For students in performing arts groups, it has become more difficult to host shows on campus because of Student Activity Fee budget cuts and a change in the cost to book Blackman Auditorium. 
The faculty senate met in Raytheon Amphitheater on Feb. 5.

Faculty senate votes to create Mechatronics major

At their meeting Feb. 5, Northeastern’s faculty senate discussed Northeastern’s new Portland, Maine campus, enrollment management and voted to add a Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics. 
Minkara was diagnosed with macular degeneration and cone-rod dystrophy at age 7.
