Tastemakers Magazine is returning for their Spring Presents concert and March 11 will be their first ever indoor show. School of Seven Bells, a New York City pop trio that carries a sound described as “dreamy and ethereal,” will perform. They are currently touring alongside Interpol and have released two albums, the most recent being “Disconnect from Desire” in July of 2010. Freelance Whales, a multi-instrument indie rock band from Queens, NY will also perform as part of the show. The band is touring with Tokyo Police Club and played at last year’s South by Southwest music festival in Austin, TX. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased on myNEU. Somewhere between the clouds of cigarette smoke and the screaming gypsies outside my apartment, I fell in love with Thessaloniki. It is a quirky, sometimes inconvenient city and entirely different than my home of New York - but it didn’t take long before I gave up my fast-paced lifestyle for the laid-back mindset of Greece.

our members of the Boston art collective Greatfruit Productions sat down on the AstroTurf at their new permanent venue, Yes.Oui.Si, and attempted to tie themselves into a human knot comfortably enough so they could maintain this position for the duration of the interview. They settled on sitting in a line against the wall, overlapping their legs and putting their arms around each other. At 19 Vancouver St., Yes.Oui.Si now occupies the property that used to be as Rice Bowl Gallery. A celebratory multi-genre art show with live music and spoken word poetry took place there Feb. 11 to honor the grand opening of the space as well as its debut exhibition, Cycles.

WRBB hosts first NU Battle of the Bands

The battle is on to find the best musical talent Northeastern has to offer. Tuesday, students gathered in afterHOURS to support their picks for the first Northeastern Battle of the Bands. Campus radio station WRBB organized the event to showcase Northeastern talent and find a band to open for the new event known as Spring Bliss, the spring equivalent to the fall Block Party concert, which will take place April 21 in the Centennial Commons.

As I get older and most of my friends now live in their own apartments, an interesting – and occasionally troubling – trend has begun to emerge. Their clothes are covered in fur, they have scratches crawling up their arms and their Facebook pages are suddenly overwhelmed with pictures of fuzzy cuteness: seemingly overnight, they’ve morphed into full-fledged cat ladies.

With spring right around the corner, it’s a perfect time to check out the region’s oldest and most respected boating marketplace in this area at the 2011 New England Boat Show from Feb. 26 to March 6. The event, held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, offers an ideal escape from the cold winter air and will host a large selection of new boats, gear and gadgets, and exhibitors offering sales. There will be sport fishers, luxury cruisers, sailboats and jet skis on display and available for purchase. ‘Under Class’ web series takes off at NU

At a gathering for young socialites, a college-aged girl cradles a young man in her arms while a group of pretentious students taunt him for not owning land, or having health insurance. As she later recounts this story to her friends in a student center, a table away, the guy is recounting the night to his friends ... differently. He recalls getting hot and heavy on the dance floor with a multitude of sexy women. In his memory, the girl watches from afar, getting so turned on that she shows off her hottest dance moves to him. The two make out, while taking the occasional break to chow down on some bread.

Instantnightlife.com will offer realtime deals for Boston clubs

One year after the launch of Instantnightlife.com, founder Kayvan Zainabadi said he and his colleagues realized they were spending too much time focusing on the clubgoers and not enough time on the clubs and bars themselves. As a response, the Instant Nightlife team has crafted several new ways for clubgoers to connect with the clubs.
