Now that Halloween is over, jump back into the holiday mood with a brand new holiday pop-up shop on Newbury Street. The week-long shop includes products from Atlas Coffee Club, Boston Bag Co, Brothers Artisan Oil, Craft & Caro, 9tailors and Peter Feeney. Having all these shops under one roof not only makes holiday gift shopping easier, but also more fun, as the shop will be festively decorated and filled with holiday cheer. It’s never too early to start buying holiday presents, especially with Thanksgiving and exams right around the corner. If not for the gifts, then stop by for the free coffee to warm you up on a chilly November day. 11 a.m.; 144 Newbury Street, Boston; free.
Friday, Nov. 11
Get down with Northeastern’s own Downbeats at their A Cappella Fall Show. This year, the theme of the evening is all things Disney. Expect amazing arrangements of your favorite Disney songs and possible appearances from Disney characters to enjoy the music and embrace the magic. The Suffolk Ramifications and The CharlieChords from the Berklee College of Music will be joining the Downbeats in celebrating the classic songs we all know, love and can easily sing along to. Northeastern students from Green Line Records will be running the sound production as well, making this a student-run night to remember. 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.; West Village F; free.
Saturday, Nov. 12
Want to burn off the turkey before you even sit down for the Thanksgiving day feast? Prove just how tough you are at the Tough Turkey fitness challenge. This course is a 5K race set up with fitness obstacles and challenges throughout the run. All college students are encouraged to join the fun and participate, regardless of fitness level. For the fit and not faint of heart, the fastest male and female participants will be named the official 2016 Tough Turkeys. Even if you finish last, expect yummy post-run snacks and drinks at the finish line, provided by the race’s sponsor, Reebok. Sunday, Nov. 13
Sugar skulls, festive music and traditional arts and crafts: must be Dia de los Muertos, a Mexican celebration that honors the spirits of loved ones who have passed. Though the holiday took place last week, the celebration continues at the Marsh Chapel. Join in on the fun with Mexican hot chocolate, a sugar skull makeup station and traditional music and dance. Participants can also bring a photo of a lost loved one to place on a traditional altar. A brand-new burger with your name on it waiting at the counter? Come get a McMeiMei from the first ever Fast Food Night at MeiMei, a Chinese-American restaurant that uses sustainable ingredients. This event features the new McMeiMei: A burger with two all-pastured-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions on a sesame seed bun. Who runs the world? More and more girls and women, by the looks of the Women Who Empower events at Northeastern. This Tuesday, join Dr. Vanessa Kerry, co-founder of Seed Global Health, as she speaks about her struggles and triumphs when it comes to being a woman and an entrepreneur. In honor of Global Entrepreneurship Week, this event’s goal is to show women they can run their own futures and careers, despite challenges and stigmas. Wednesday, Nov. 16
Happy Birthday to Space Jam! The cult-classic “Space Jam” celebrates it’s 20th birthday on Wednesday, and the AMC Loews Boston Common 19 wants to celebrate it with the truest fans in the city. The theatre will be screening the film for two days only: Sunday and Wednesday. The 7 p.m. showing on Wednesday is sure to be the busiest time, so plan ahead and purchase your tickets online. The 95 minute-film will be prefaced with the classic Looney Tunes short, “I Tawt I Taw a Puddy Tat”.
