Salsa isn’t just for chips anymore, it’s for everyone! Come to Faneuil Hall to learn to dance the classic Latin dance: the salsa. Bring some dance partners or venture out solo and be paired up at the event. Regardless, this fun and free instructional dance lesson is great for beginners and fun for the pros as well. Start the night at 6 p.m. with a 45 minute lesson from Metamovements Latin Dance Company . Then, show off what you’ve learned from 7 to 8:30 to the tune of live music provided by Latin Logic. A birthday fiesta for all! Join the Latino/a Student Cultural Center (LSCC) as it celebrates 20 years of faithful service to the Northeastern community. Since opening in 1997, the LSCC has served not only as a resource center for students but a home away from home. After a cocktail reception, a gala and dinner will follow in the Curry Student Center Ballroom. Back again and better than ever, MixFest 2017 is bringing some of the biggest names in music to Boston. Brought to you by Mix 104.1, Boston’s best variety station, MixFest is sure to have you dancing all day long. This year’s concert will feature “American Idol” and Grammy Award-winner Kelly Clarkson, singer-songwriter Andy Grammer and Grammy Award-winner Blondie. Get hungry and go green, Boston, because it’s time for the annual Boston Local Food Festival. As the nation’s largest sustainable food festival, Boston uses this event to showcase local farmers, foods and sustainable growing and harvesting practices alongside amazing food trucks, restaurants and chefs. Festival goers can expect chef demos, taste tests, live music and educational activities centered around sustainability and going local. This is a zero-waste event, so bring a reusable water bottle and be on the lookout for compost and recycling bins during the day. 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.; 191W Atlantic Ave, Boston; free.
Monday, Sept. 18
Help turn Ruggles station from a morning commute tunnel to a fun and exciting dance party at the second annual Gateway Mixer. Start the day off with an address from University President, Joseph E. Aoun. Next, get the party going with live music by DJ Jose Masso and performances by the group Fine Art Superheros. No party is complete without snacks, and so all guests will be treated to complimentary food and drinks throughout the event. The “Final Cut King” comes to campus. Zach King, a social media sensation best known for his seemingly magical video creations, has over 100 million subscribers on YouTube and has been featured on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Good Morning America and more. And now, thanks to the Council for University Programs (CUP), he’ll be speaking to Northeastern students at Blackman Auditorium. With over 19 million followers on Instagram and 4 million on Vine, the event is sure to draw a large crowd. 7 p.m.; Blackman Auditorium; free
Wednesday, Sept. 20
A jam sesh for a superior cause. Join Women in Music Boston, an organization dedicated to the equality of women in the music industry, as they showcase and support local talent at Spotify’s Boston office. The show will feature performances from luhx., Jazzmyn RED and Marcela Cruz; all three of these acts were chosen after several rounds of voting and each display diversity in gender and genre.
