The Northeastern men’s soccer team (0-0-1, 0-0 CAA) tied the College of the Holy Cross Crusaders (0-0-1, 0-0 Patriot) 1-1 in the opening match of the 2025 season Aug. 21.
Graduate student goalkeeper Tobias Jahn recorded his first start after missing all but four games due to an injury during the 2024 season, last playing Sept. 7.
Sophomore defender Ethan Leary got the Huskies started in the third minute with a strike outside of the 18-yard box that went over the cross bar.
In the 15th minute, freshman defender Ethan Davis committed a foul at the edge of the box, giving the Crusaders a chance to score. Freshman forward Archie Hatcher stepped up to take the kick, which deflected off of a Northeastern defender and into the back of the net to make the score 1-0.
Northeastern responded eight minutes later, with senior midfielder Kade Tepe dribbling in from the left side of the field before spinning away from his defender and firing a shot that was saved by sophomore goalkeeper Mateo Buyu. Sophomore forward Bryce Flowers collected the ball in the box and slotted it past Buyu to level the score.
The first 45 minutes of the game ended with a 1-1 tie between the Huskies and the Crusaders.
In the second half, Jahn was called into action for the first time in the contest. The Huskies’ netminder made two clean saves off a soft shot by Hatcher and a strike to the bottom left corner by junior midfielder Adric Rosato.
Tensions flared between the two teams for the duration of the second half, with a total of 17 fouls committed. A yellow card was issued to senior defender Matty Gardner for unsportsmanlike conduct in the 85th minute.
Northeastern will look to secure the team’s first win of the season against the Stonehill College Skyhawks (0-1-0, 0-0 Northeast) at Parsons Field Aug. 24.
