Boston police are investigating shots fired near the intersection of Gainsborough and Hemenway streets around 10:06 p.m. April 1. 

The Boston Police Department, or BPD, responded to the area of 115 Gainsborough St. last night, but no victims were located, according to Officer Michael Torigian of the Boston Police Department’s Office of Media Relations. Ballistic evidence was recovered at the scene, Torigian wrote in a 10:49 p.m. email to The Huntington News. 

More than eight BPD officers closed off Gainsborough Street with police tape and worked to disperse the crowd of students that had gathered at the scene. No arrests have been made and the investigation remains active, Torigian said in the email. 

The incident took place adjacent to Northeastern University’s campus, near Stetson East and across from Kennedy Hall — a popular area for Northeastern and Berklee College of Music students to rent off-campus housing. 

Berklee College of Music students received an emergency public safety alert from the college at 10:49 p.m., which was obtained by The News. Berklee’s main campus is located a few streets north of where the incident occurred, with most campus buildings on Massachusetts Avenue. 

“Boston police are responding to reports of possible gunshots fired from a black SUV that fled the area near Gainsborough and Hemenway Streets,” the Berklee alert read. “At this time nothing has been confirmed. Officers are currently canvassing the area for potential evidence and witnesses. Berklee Police have increased patrols and visibility in the area out of an abundance of caution.” 

Northeastern students did not receive an alert about the shots fired.

The incident occurred the same day as an early morning stabbing near Northeastern’s East Village Residence Hall and just three days after a Northeastern student sustained non-life-threatening injuries from an alleged aggravated assault near Marino Recreation Center.
