Love pork? Love judging people? Then Porkapalooza is the event for you. Three chefs battle it out to create the most creative and delicious meal, using the key ingredient: a pig part. The meals are served family-style to be enjoyed and judged by all participants, who will get to determine which chef is the Head Hog. Guest Chef Karen Akunowicz of Myers + Chang joins Executive Chef Kevin O’Donnell and Chef Michael Lombardi Jr. at the Salty Pig for the showdown. There’s a great James Brown quote that reads: “The one thing that can solve most of our problems is dancing.” The quote is so great not only because the almighty James Brown said it, but because it is so damn true.
As the semester kicks into gear, so does the Northeastern Theater Department with four productions that they plan to bring to the campus stage. The plays this season range from the classics to the quirky with the lineup as follows: “Elephant’s Graveyard,” “The Phantom Lady,” “Metamorphosis,” and “Romeo and Juliet.”
The Boston Ballet, in celebration of 50 years as a major institution of dance, is giving residents of Boston the gift of free entertainment. This weekend, the company is holding its first ever “Night of Stars” event for all audiences.
From Sept. 27 to Oct. 14, Boston will be hosting 75 pianos as part of a live art project called "Play Me, I’m Yours." The pianos will be placed in public areas all around the Boston area and will give the general public a chance to be a street musician and put their talents on display.
Popcorn, gummy bears, too much chocolate and a stomach ache later. Most movie food leaves watchers with indigestion and regret, but next week, give up all that nasty movie food in favor of tasty dishes from Boston’s Clover food truck, which is offering healthy dinner and a movie for just $10.
This past weekend, Boston welcomed a few artists and their thousand of fans to City Hall Plaza. The skies were clear and the sun was strong, but a soft breeze offered relief to concert goers attending the two-day, two-stage music festival, Boston Calling.
Boston organization ONEin3 is offering students the chance to experience three world class cities this weekend, all without leaving the comfort of the red line. Participants will have the chance to decorate cupcakes, ride bikes and receive free samples at each of the three stops.
Earlier this month, Boston gave a whole new meaning to the phrase, “pass me a cold one” with the opening of the world’s largest permanent ice bar in the Faneuil Hall Marketplace. And no, this is not a bar that sells ice, like tea or oxygen bars, but rather a bar made completely of ice. It may be 75 degrees outside, but it is 21 degrees year-round in Frost Ice Bar.

Mix Fest 2013 will play host to three major headliners this weekend: Gavin Degraw, The Backstreet Boys and Of Monsters and Men. While these three acts may have nothing in common, all three will have listeners fangirling in their seats by the end of the sets. All are invited to attend, and the Hatch Memorial Shell, where the concert takes place, is located along the river, with beautiful views and lots of room to lie out a blanket and get comfy. Use of public transport is encouraged, Charles/MGH on the Red Line and Science Park on the Green Line are the closest T stops to the show.
